THE next day arrived — it was still a weekday, and it was noticeable in the grumpy faces of the students accumulated in the narrow corridor that they would rather be on the beach instead of school on that warm Wednesday noon.
Like always, Rosé and her friends were having lunch at the cafeteria; except this time, for the first time in a while, Rosé was in a way, detached from her friends, sitting at one side of the table, silently eating her lunch; while the other girls animatedly chatted on the other side of it. Rosé couldn't help but dissociate from her reality — a lot had been going through her mind for the past hours, and asking her friends for advice was unthinkable. Why? She didn't have an exact answer to that. But no matter how much Rosé hated to admit it, she was gradually starting to lose trust in her friends.
''Hey ninny, what are you thinking about?'' Mik said, almost scaring Rosé, as she sat next to her. Rosé didn't verbally reply, yet she looked up to Mik with a hazy inattentive face, and Mik understood everything.
''Oh, I see — by how starry-eyed you are, I guess I'll have to ask who are you thinking about. Is it Olivia, is it Kandy, is it me?!'' Mik beat her gums, purposely trying to mock Rosé, and talk her into speaking her mind.
''Fine, Mikaya, I'll tell you. But you have to promise you won't make fun of me.''
''You are a cunt — I've been friends with you for years, and not once have I made fun of you, or the dumb shit you do. But for both of our sakes, I promise I won't.'' Mik said, reaching her hand out to Rosé, and the other girl reluctantly shook it.
''The only thing that has kept me from going insane with everyone rejecting me lately has been a strip club.'' Rosé whispered, as she looked around, trying to make sure no one was listening.
''Understandable. I can't judge you based on that!''
''Yeah, but I may or may not be falling in love with one of the girls who works there.'' Rosé continued.
''A stripper?!'' Mik said, raising her voice, as her eyes opened so widely it seemed like they'd fall out of their sockets at any given minute.
''Tone it down, this place is bursting at the seams! Yes, she works at a nightclub; but that doesn't mean she deserves any less respect than a lawyer or an accountant.'' Rosé explained.
''I know, I know, but... I don't know, it's just that all the strippers I've met are complete scheming, manipulative man-eaters! Is she even good at her job?'' Mik confessed.
''Oh, trust me — she's the best... The way she twirls around that metallic pole is absolutely enthralling, and she's stunning — she has an angel face; but she dances like a devil.'' Rosé described it, almost falling into her fantasy world again.
''You're slobbering! But honestly I don't blame you — by the way you describe her, she must be an out-and-out goddess. Have you two interacted at all?''
''Yeah, kind off — yesterday she came up to me, and abruptly started talking to me. She also told me her name, Denali. She seems really nice.''
''Aha! So she came up to you, and started the conversation! That means she's so into you.'' Mik said, and a bit of her LA diction came through.
''Yeah, it's that, or because I tipped her with a 50 dollar bill the other day...'' Rosé obliviously said, causing Mik to widen her eyes.
''50 dollars? That you perfectly could've given to me!''
''What? I really liked her performance!'' Rosé tried to excuse herself.
''Gosh, you're desperate...''
''There must be some truth to your logic, because she invited me to an exclusive gathering at the strip! Tomorrow!!''
''You obviously said yes, I assume.''
''Yes, but what should I do?!'' Rosé desperately asked in a squeaky voice.
''What do you mean by what should you do? You need to beautify yourself, show up, delight her with your charms, fall in love, and soon you'll be married with two kids!'' Mik joked, again trying to piss Rosé off.
''Remind me never to ask you for advice ever again.'' Rosé rolled her eyes, and laughed it off.
When the school day was finally over, Rosé went straight into her home, and indecisively walked in circles around her room for over an hour. Maybe Mik's advice wasn't bad at all — actually, Rosé could not think about one single time when Mik had given her bad advice love-wise; aside from encouraging her to ask each of her friends out, which Rosé didn't necessarily blame on Mik entirely. After all, it was her very own idea in the first place.
Whether it was an intricate math problem, or a so, like, totally major fashion emergency, Mik always had a solution. She had never been wrong about it; and frankly, everyone implicitly knew she rarely would ever be. And so, Rosé decided to go with her friend's gut.
They had talked it all out — Mik would tell the girls that Rosé stayed at her house with her mom, watching a movie; and distract the boys to hopefully fill in Rosé's place on this one. Nothing could go wrong. Rosé had nothing to worry about, and maybe she'd have more fun at this party than what she expected.
