A Moderately Bad Day, Even For a Rabbit

~{Leon's POV}~

I sniffed the air to be met with the scent of a rabbit. It was a familiar scent. My ears perked up. I started to locate where the rabbit was. The rabbit was near the fountain. I looked to my brother Legoshi, only to be met with the sight of him ready to charge at the rabbit.

I noticed the silhouette of the rabbit stop in its tracks. Looks like Legoshi did to. Before Legoshi could pounce, I made a noise to catch the rabbit's attention.

"Run."

The rabbit started to run, as Legoshi began to pounce.

"LEGOSHI!"

I yelled frantically to catch his attention. He ignored me. I shook my head and ran at him and tackled him, which inadvertently made him catch the rabbit in his grasp.

Uh oh.

~{Haru's POV}~

I'm... I'm still... alive. For now. At least... they're not here. Thoughts race through my mind of animals taunting me.

"Serves you right!"

"You're about to get eaten for real."

"I knew you'd get what you deserve in the end."

In a way, this is a relief. Please... if you're going to devour me... swallow me whole. Leave no traces behind. Because I don't want them to find out.

~{Four Hours Ago}~

Mmm mm mmm! Today's dinner is carrot and bean chowder! What a good meal! I'm Haru. A netherland dwarf rabbit. Currently, I'm walking through the cafeteria to find a place to sit.

"Excuse me?" I ask a ferret at a table. She looks at me. "Is that seat taken?"

She then looks away. "Yes, unfortunately... my friend's coming. Sorry."

Oh. Okay. I walk away and find a cat sitting by herself. I ask her the same thing, but she onlyooks at me for a split second then continues eating her meal. I sigh. Time to look for another place before I give up completely.

I see a group of animals sitting together. I start to ask them if I can sit with them, but my questions fall on deaf ears. Only gossip.

Sighing, I trudge over to the back of the school and sit on a ledge. A good meal still tastes good even if I have to eat it behind the building.

"Haru!" A voice calls. It's my friend/roommate Sally. She looks at me warily.

"Oh, hi Sally! Are you going back to the dorm?" I ask.

"Um... you're eating dinner all alone? Even after an herbivore got devoured?"

"It's better than eating out in the dining hall. And also, if you're gonna go through the trouble of checking up on me, why don't we eat together?"

"Uh, no thanks. Sorry, but I don't wanna get on their bad side. Everybody knows what you did."

I sigh. "I know. That's why everyone's been avoiding me for the last two days."

"She's really mad at you. As your friend and roommate, I'm warning you to lay low for a while."

My body proceeds to quiver. It's not just me is it? The heartbeats of every small animal can sometimes make their bodies tremble violently. If I keep shaking like this... I could pass out.

After finishing my dinner, I walk upstairs to my dorm room. I better get to bed early. Just then, I feel items drop from the staircase above. I flinch.

I hold out my hand to see walnut husks. I hear laughing from above me.

"Sorry! They must've slipped out of my paw!"

I stay silent.

"I sure hope you didn't get hurt. But if you did, I'm sure some knight in shining armor would come to save your life."

I look up at them with a small smirk, walnut husks still in my paw. "I'm fine, thank you. Nothing you do can hurt me."

The trio start to come down the stairs towards me. "You do get what the problem is, right? Why everyone's shunning you?" The leader of the trio, the harlequin rabbit, Mizuchi, asks.

"Eeek!" She flinches after I throw the husks at her. "H-Hey!"

"Yeah yeah. I get it. I ain't got time for this crap. Goodbye." I confidently continue up the stairwell.

"Also, rather than spreading rumours about me, why not concentrate on getting back together with your boyfriend?" I say, not sparing another glance.

"Huh?! Who do you think you are? None of that is-"

I turn around and interrupt her, stopping in my tracks. "Actually, he's the one who kissed me. Besides, a guy who gets excited over one little kiss, kinda tells ya something, doesn't it?"

Mizuchi's fuming. She proceeds to grab a bucket of water and goes to drench me in it. Welp. Here goes. I brace myself for the water to hit my dress.

...

Any minute now.

What's taking so long?!

Impatiently, I open my eyes, only to be met with a wolf of all creatures standing in front of me, shielding me from the water. I hear squeals of fright come from Mizuchi and her lackies and hear them scream and run away.

The wolf turns toward me and kneels down to my level.

"You okay?" He asks.

"Yes, I'm fine. I could've handled that myself you know." I pout.

He chuckles. The nerve of this guy! "And have to dry it by yourself? In the restroom? While you're in the stall? Partially naked? Yeah right."

Well, he does have a point. As much as I hate to admit it.

"Ugh... fine. I guess you have a point. Thanks for that."

"No problem. I'm Leon by the way." He holds out his hand, which I gladly shake. "I'm Haru." I smile.

"Nice to meet you Haru."

"Likewise."

We then part ways and I continue finding my way to my dorm. Leon seems like a nice guy. I'd like to hang out with him sometime. He's... different. Different from all the boys I've slept with.

They're attracted to me because I look vulnerable. They think I look cute. They want to protect me forever. But then when they find out I'm not who they thought I was, they abandon me. But I don't care. Because... the winners in this world... are those who live in the shadows.

A pair of narrowed eyes stare at me from the darkness. I freeze. I see another figure beside the eyes.

"Run."

I hear them say. I comply and run as fast as I can, away from the monster. Unfortunately though, I get caught in the grasp of the carnivore's clutches. Is this...

Is this how I'll die?
