"She's my daughter, I know her the best! How can you easily told me a lie about Haeun was the one who stold her doll first?"
She hang her head down, feeling so embarrassed being the center of attention. The headmistress had tried to make things calm down but Haeun mother was just too mad. Yerim was only telling the truth, it was her who couldn't accept it. The girl Haeun looked a mess with stain of tears at her cheeks with disheveled hair. Yerim then looked at her side, Mina, the one who had been in the fight with her friend just because of the doll. She was there when the fighting took place.
At first, Yerim didn't realise they were fighting because she was busy handling others colouring. Then she heard a shriek from behind when she saw Haeun had pulled Mina hair while the kid was crying. Of course she went to stop the both of them and heard both side. She wasn't that stupid to judge just because she only saw Haeun was the one who pulled it. Both of them were nice to each other, and child fights are common at the pre school.
She remembered clearly that Haeun admitted it was her fault, that she tried to take Mina's doll by force that end up both of them fighting for it. They were quick to reconcile and Yerim thought things ended already.
But when her mother came, storming inside with the 'suddenly' looking messy of Haeun, she knew something was wrong. It will be normal if Haeun told her mother what had happened today, but it's not normal if the mother had created a scene just to proof her daughter wasn't at fault. In any way, Yerim had judged the kid is more matured than her mother.
"Like I told you Mrs. Hwang, the kids had say sorry to each other and I believe Haeun had no grudge anymore to Mina. She admitted-"
"I provided her the finest things in her life, what makes you think an old looking doll from a poor girl will caught the eye of my daughter? I think it's you who persuade my daughter to say sorry and make her look like some privilege girl here!"
More like you making her the most privilege here.
"Maybe I am wrong in this situation, but both of them are back to being friends again, it will be enough right? Mrs. Hwang, I think it's better if we settled it here because I'm afraid Mina and Haeun won't like the both of us fighting because of them"
"I wouldn't want that. I want you, to get fired. A teacher who manipulated a child just because she's biased with the other is making me sick. Maybe poor people understand poor people better"
Her words did make her heart dropped, and for once she was ashamed of living like this. She wasn't that poor, but her work is enough to pay her rent every month and to have some savings for the future. She worked hard to live independently without her father, even when she realise her father will still send her some money for her to buy groceries or things for herself. She realized she wasn't that successful in her life, but now she is content with it.
Her thoughts were stopped when Mina tugged her fingers tighter, and when she looked at her, the girl was in the brinks of tear. Of course the poor soul will feel sad being called poor right in front of her face. Even when she didn't yet to understand the real hardship in the world, she knew being poor is a disappointment. Being poor means she can't get everything she want, depending on the free school supply they provided. Yerim had enough of the arrogant woman now. Just when she was about to talk back, the middle aged woman stood in front of , between them facing Mrs. Hwang with a stern look.
"I'm afraid you are in no place to decide who shall we fired and why she needs to be fired. Paying more than the original fee doesn't mean you have the authority to interfere our working organization here, and Miss Lee is a hard-working teacher. I see no flaw in her to do this work for a longer time, and she's among the best teacher we ever had. Ask any child here, and they will say Miss Lee is indeed a loving woman. Even your daughter, Haeun liked her. And please, refrain yourself from talking bad things here, a child heart is more fragile than you thought. "
The snobbish woman was taken back by her stern words, and with a bashful look she turned back with Haeun following her. She did say something about suing them, but the both of them stay quiet about it. Yerim saw how guilty the child look, but she smiled while mouthing everything is okay to here. Haeun was never at fault. Yerim knew she was spoiled, but she is still a child after all. She wasn't the only one to be born in a rich family here. Realising Mina is still holding her hand, she kneeled down to her eye level before pulling her into her arms, making the child burst into a wailing cry which caught other kids attention.
"It's okay, you are not poor Mina. The only poor person in the world is the heartless one. You are far from that."
"But she called my doll ugly"
"It's because she couldn't have it. If it's ugly, Haeun and you won't fight right?"
The child nodded but her tears were nowhere to stop, so she continue hugging her while comforting her with warm words. She didn't realise a figure had enter the gate of the pre school, eyeing the both of them with a warm look. The headmistress who had been there to help other children going back home gasped before smiling at him, which Yoongi respond with a nod. He stood there for a while, not wanting to disturb the both of them.
Once Mina was calmed down, she stood up and brushed some dirt away from her pants before holding her hand to led her outside. She turned back, just to see Yoongi eyes on her and she couldn't hide the surprise in her face. "When did you-"
"I called you, but you didn't pick up so I came here. Take your time, I'll be waiting in the car"
She smiled before nodded, leading the child with her and help her to wear her pink bag at her shoulder. She didn't forget to wipe the tear stain on her red cheeks and make sure she look presentable to her mother later. She knew Mina will talk about it to her mother, but a busy woman who is having a hard time to support a family couldn't do anything. At least she won't be making a scene in here. Yoongi who saw every action she did was stunned, that he almost forgot he was supposed to go back to his car.
Maybe, it wasn't a bad idea at all to fall in love with her.
