I walk into Sam's at 12:50 and it's surprisingly busy. The restaurant is full of college students that look hungover from last night's partying and a few families that probably live in the area.

I see Sam by the bar so I head that way. She's drying glasses when I walk up.

"Violet." She smiles. "Perfect I was just finishing up. How's your weekend been?"

"Great actually." I think about Harry again. "What about yours?"

"I can't complain. Business has been really good recently."

I look around. "I can see that."

"Good thing I hired you." She winks before walking out from behind the bar.

She starts walking to the back and I assume I'm supposed to follow so I trail behind.

"It's the Sunday lunch rush and I'm actually down a waitress so I thought I'd just throw you in. Seems like the best way for you to learn."

My stomach drops a little. I've never served before and now I'm nervous. "Okay."

"Don't worry about it sugar you'll be fine." She must sense my apprehension. "Our menu isn't that complicated and there's always someone near by to help."

We enter a small room that isn't her office. There's cubbies and a table along with a fridge.

"You can put any of your things in a cubby and aprons with everything you need are over there." She points to some drawers. "I provide everything but bring some pens with you next time. You'll never have enough of those."

"Perfect thank you." I walk over and set my bag in an empty cubby.

"Here's our menu." Sam pulls the laminated sheet out of nowhere. "Take a few to look over it and get ready then meet me out there."

"Okay I will. Thank you again for this opportunity."

"I know I'll be the one thanking you soon." She smiles and motions to my shirt. "That looks great on you."

I look down at the Sam's tank top I decided to wear with a pair of jean shorts. It's hot today so I thought this was my best bet.

She leaves the room and I sit down at the table trying to calm myself down. You'll be fine Violet. It won't be that hard. I quickly scan the menu and it's all familiar foods. I go to the drawers next and pull out a black apron with an order notepad and pens.

I find Sam near the front when I come out. "Okay let the games begin. You can shadow me for a couple tables and then I think you'll be fine on your own."

"Sounds good."

"It's really not that hard. The drink station is over there." She points. "You give your order slips to the kitchen and just make sure to check back so you don't miss your food. Any questions?"

"No I don't think so."

"Follow me." She leads the way to a booth with two college age looking girls.

"Hey girls how are we feeling?" Sam greets them.

"I've seen better days." One looks like she might puke up last night's fun.

"Nothing your food can't cure." The other smiles.

"I love to hear it. What can I get for you?"

"Waters would be good and a coffee for me, thanks." The more alive one speaks.

"Okay we'll be right back with that." I follow her to the drink station where she shows me how to get water and pour coffee.

The rest of the day honestly flies by and I'm actually finding it pretty fun. I started taking tables on my own after watching Sam with two or three and I would say I'm a natural.
