Chapter 7: Sparring with Togata

A few minutes later, we arrived at the school gym.

I swear, they just make these buildings to show off.

The gym was massive--with the main room being bigger than a few city blocks, if my sources were correct. Just standing near the building is daunting, and that doesn't even describe it fully once you enter the place.

Now, unfortunately, Nejire may have hyped our sparring match a little too much, because tons of students have come to watch. If I had known at the time that he was a part of the big three, I probably wouldn't have accepted the deal to fight. Now, because word doesn't just reach students, a few teachers were there, as well. Currently, the dominatrix woman and the blonde guy were the ones supervising the match, and they were raising the crowd's hype even more than before.

"Well, I guess we can't back down now..." Mirio said sheepishly, watching the crowd gather.

"Yeah, well... I figured, what, with you being a member of the big three, and all, that word of someone challenging you would spread fast." I said. He nodded, and started walking towards the arena.

"And it looks like our competitors have arrived! Member of the big three, star student Mirio Togata! Facing off against an unnamed competitor! Who will win? NO ONE KNOWS!" The blonde guy yelled. The cheering intensified, and I sighed in relief that he didn't name me in front of all these people.

"Wait, you're going nameless? Why?" Mirio asked.

"I'll tell you some other time. You ready?" I asked, lowering into a fighting position.

"Definitely." He smirked as he also got into a position.

"Alright! It looks like these two are ready! On the right, Mirio Togata! On the left, a handsome man in semi-formal attire! We will go until one or both are unable to continue fighting!" The lady yelled. A small blush formed on my cheeks as she called me 'handsome', though I quickly blocked that from my memory.

Geez... this was supposed to be a quick sparring match, not some major event...

Well, whatever. I already see a girl holding up a phone--most likely recording/streaming this. I guess it is kind of a big deal now.

"On the count of three, our competitors will start the match! Ready? THREE! TWO! ONEEEEEE!"

A cool feeling rushed into my head, and I closed my eyes. I felt him running--way faster than I anticipated--over to me. Starting with a right hook, eh? Well, I'll just do this!

When he was just a few meters away, I shifted my body to grab onto his, looking more like a hug. I shifted my body around once I had him, and pulled him over my head, throwing him into the ground.

"OH! LOOK AT THAT, FOLKS! HE GOT PAST THE FIRST ATTACK! THIS IS GOING TO BE INTERESTING!"

Wait- most people don't make it past the first attack?

What a bunch of wimps.

I felt him move again, and jumped to avoid him trying to sweep his legs into mine. Activating my telekinesis quirk, I pushed him--and myself--back by about twenty meters each.

"AND HE MANAGES TO RECOVER INSTANTLY! HE'S FIGHTING WITH HIS EYES CLOSED!"

"What?" I hear Mirio yell.

I feel him getting back up, launching towards me with greater speed. It feels like he's going to try and use his legs next, so I need to dodge like... this!

I feel him trying to kick the side of my stomach, so I push that part of my body out, hearing it whoosh past its target.

Now, he's going for the face!
