“Dennise, stop yelling” Yuan’s tired voice seeps into the tension filled room.

His tie hangs loosely around his neck, his dress shirt is unbuttoned a little bit, showing his broad chest.

Yuan runs his fingers through his hair before rubbing his temples.

“Stop yelling? How do you expect me to stop yelling?” Dennise ignored her throbbing headache, staring angrily at her husband.

“We have to make conscious decisions, Yuan! We’re not twenty years old anymore!” she added.

“It was for my happiness!” Yuan raises his voice too.

Dennise cringe slightly but try to hide it. There is nothing she hate more than hearing Yuan yell especially at her.

“Do you not care about that at all? Does my happiness not matter to you at all?” he asked.

“Of course I do! Of course your happiness matters! But we have bills to pay and food to buy. We have a family Yuan!” I shake her head, rubbing her temples. “Couldn’t you just wait until you found work at a different job before you decided to quit?” I added while in the verge of crying.

“It’s not that simple Dennise!” he stand from the bed, his voice cracking slightly as he yells loudly, “Why can’t you understand that?”.

“You could’ve told me Yuan! I had no warning! How am I supposed to handle news like that?” I yelled even louder and I swear I can feel the beat radiating off my skin.

“Mommy?” I heard my daughter’s voice from behind me.

I see Yuan’s angry eyes soften as they dart over to our small daughter.

I shut my eyes, letting out a breath.

“Yes?” I sigh and turn bending down to my eight years old daughter level.

I realize there are tears on her cheeks and in her eyes. “Oh, baby..why are you crying?” I asked her.

“Are you and daddy getting a divorce?” her small voice shakes and I pick her up holding in my arms.

I looked forward and my eyes meet Yuan’s sad ones.

“No, baby, why would you think of that?” I sit down next to her on the bed and Yuan sits on the other side of her.

“Well, kids at school said that when people don’t love each other anymore, they get divorced” she explained looking at both of us.

I glanced at Yuan and I looked back down to our daughter.

“What? Mommy and I still love each other very much, why would you think that we don’t?” Yuan takes her hand in his face and I take a shaky breath.

“Well, it seems like you guys are always fighting and you guys are yelling at each other” she focuses her eyes on the floor, “And if you aren’t happy, you don’t love each other. And if you don’t love each other, you get divorced”.

A tear rolls down in my cheek and Yuan looks at me sadly.

“We have misunderstanding sometimes, but we still love each other very much. I know that’s hard for you to understand right now, but you will one day” Yuan explains stroking our daughter’s dark hair.

Our daughter definitely takes on his features, having both dark hair and hazel brown eyes.

She has a tan skin color like her father but the shape of her nose and mouth take on my own features.

Yuan takes a breath, “Let’s get you to bed, okay? Mommy and I will gonna talk and fix our misunderstanding so don’t cry” he said.

She nods and turn towards me. Her tiny arms wrap around me and I hug her tight.

“I love you so much baby. And I love your dad a lot too, so we’ll be okay” I said “Sleep well baby, mommy and daddy loves you!” I added.

She kissed us on the cheeks and Yuan picks her up and carried her down the hallway and into her bedroom.
About five minutes later, Yuan, my husband comes back into our room, sitting next to me.

“Why did we let it get to this?” I sniffle feeling the tears roll down. “Our daughter thinks we’re getting divorced” I asked while tears are rolling down to my cheeks.

“Eight years old think a lot of things hon” Yuan’s voice speaks softly and I froze on my spot.

That’s the first time he called me anything besides my name in very long time.

“It doesn’t make them true, I love you so much and nothing will ever change that” he added.

“I love you” I sobbed, scooting into his lap as I wrap my arms around his waist.

His arms wrap around my back and he holds me close.

“I love you so much. Your happiness means so much to me and I’m sorry I got so upset about that matter”i continued.

“I love you too. It’s okay, we’re fine now, hush love don’t cry” he said as we lay down and I rest my head on his chest staring at the ceiling, “We’ll get through it” he said and kissed my temple.

Yuan’s words settle in my brain and I realize, our love is stronger than any materialistic item in the world, even money.

Our fight has gotten out of control more than we expected, and we knew that our love will continue to get us through so many things for the rest of our lives.
