'His greenie' | Newt x reader

A night in the maze.

Y/n POV

The hours are going by slow, the builders have been fixing up anything ruined in the storm last night, whereas me and the trackhoes are trying to salvage anything we can left of the plants and vegetables.

Minho is in the maze with Alby today, they decided to go a bit further and try to see if they can find anything else about our way out.

I decide to take a break and get some lunch from frypan. I walk over to the kitchen, earning a few catcalls and wolf whistles, I just ignore them wanting to get my food.

"Hey!! Y/n , you're looking pretty good today" if looks could kill, newt would've killed that boy, he places his hand on my lower back and steps behind me to prevent people from staring.

"Sorry , I didn't know she was with you" the boy stammers his words and goes a deep red colour.

We walk past him my head hung low. "Shut it shuck face, don't ever make a comment like that again you got it?" I watch as newt leans across the table and into the boys face.

It was pretty funny I can't lie, I watched as the boy backed up into his seat, I have never seen newt angry but it was kind of hot..wait.. was he jealous??

After lunch I carried on with my work , the hours seem to be flying by more quickly now. The runners should be back soon and dinner was coming around.

I sat at dinner with newt, Chuck and Thomas, considering minho still wasn't back yet, I'm not worried as the doors don't close for about another hour, he'll make it.

"Newt you stink.. almost as bad as Minho" I laugh at him as he goes a deep red colour.

"Take that back I do not stink!!"

I playfully push his shoulder "no wayyy" I hiss at him. He pushes me off the table and onto the ground and starts tickling me.

Half screaming and half laughing I manage to squeeze out a few words in between breaths "o-ok n-newt you win, l-let me go I can't b-breathe!!".

He surrenders his arms up giving me a chance to get up from the ground. "Somethings wrong.." I turn my attention to Thomas as he furrows his eyebrows frantically looking around. "Nothings wrong Tommy? You're just overthinking" I say trying to catch my breath from moments before.

"Yeah she's right 'tommy'" I glare at Chuck who stops and retracts "I- I meant Thomas"

I give him a little smile to show my thanks.

"Wait no hes right" newt starts pointing towards the doors. I look over to see that a whole crowd had formed towards the doors

"They're not back" I look at my watch 9:25pm, the doors shut in 5 minutes and they still aren't back..

I run with the others towards the doors waiting for Minho and alby to get back. 2 minutes till the doors close..

"There!!" I hear newt shout , pointing further into the maze. I turn my head to see Minho dragging albys body through the maze.

My heart dropped to my stomach.. they weren't going to make it in time. The yells of gladers echoing down the maze bouncing of walls and back down to us.

I see Thomas flinch. I turn to grab him but he's already sliding himself through the maze doors as they shut.

"THOMAS!!" I yell at him but the doors slam shut. I drop to my knees, slamming my fists on the walls, how could Tommy do this? I felt sick.

"Everyone go to bed, we will figure this out in the morning" newt reassured everyone , watching as they left for bed before he sat down next to me.

"It'll be ok.. I know it will they'll make it" worry laced his tone. He was trying to reassure me without even knowing anything himself.
"Yeah" I mutter, not really wanting to talk.

"Let's go to bed ok? I'll help you brush your hair if you want" I look over at him and let out a smile , he helps me stand to my feet and we walk towards the homestead.

I could only hope that tomorrow , everyone would make it back alive.
