For the next 200 years, I kill people just for the fun of it. I enjoying seeing their faces of fear when their bodies are nearly drained of blood.
It's been so long since I turned my humanity switch, I don't even know what it feels like to have emotions any more.
I meet people, make friends with them, and eventually they die, either by natural causes, or myself not being able to resist the sweet smell of their blood.
Here I am now in Mystic Falls. A small town in Virginia, where vampires are not known of, and there are no big cities for a long way around it.
Two woman walk over to the bench I am sat on, and I am immediately drawn to the fact that I can't smell their blood, or even their scent.
They must be vampires. There's no other explanation.
I drift back to thinking about my humanity. I could settle here with someone, and just live a happy life. This thought eventually brings me to turn my humanity switch back on.
A huge tidal wave of emotions hit me all at once. So many. Pain, anger, regret and sadness are just a few. I feel confused.
All of this happened in the space of a minute. The 2 women are still stood there, watching me spill my emotions literally everywhere.
One of the women steps towards me to introduce herself.
"I'm Pearl, and this is my daughter Anna. We are vampires, just like you. We knew because we are very old, and could tell straight away. And you are?"
I gulped. "I'm Kateri- no I'm Katherine. Katherine Pierce"
They smiled. I think they bought my name. "Nice to meet you Katherine. We want to help you settle into living in Mystic Falls. So we can move you into the Salvatore Mansion. Is that ok?"
"Yes."
A new start for Katherine Pierce.
