Chapter 17

Distracted from the truth

Alex's POV

I couldn't wipe the smile off my face. I was parked at the uni, the engine was off but I was still on my seat. I touched the spot on my cheek that he kissed. I don't know why he did it but I was glad he did.

What's a kiss on the cheek between friends? Normal right?

It was late afternoon and students were everywhere, in between classes and catching up with friends. The whole place was lively and loud chatter filled the courtyard. I could see my work from here it looked super busy but I didn't have work today. I had a few days off before next week when I would practically be working full time. School was giving me a break for once and I wanted to save up a bit of money for something nice.

I didn't have any classes today. They were cancelled so I was free to do anything I wanted. I didn't want to do anything wild. My mind was too full to study. So I just walked around campus, seeing if I could find any secret entrances or forbidden areas. Unfortunately there was none of that. Metro definitely wasn’t on the level of Hogwarts, that’s for sure.

I walked off the campus, the shops were just a few minutes walk away. I had just enough time to buy some dinner from the supermarket before it closed for the night. I brushed my finger along the shelves, indecisive on tonight's dinner. Finally when it was closing time I chose pad thai. I hadn't eaten it since high school, it used to be one of my favourites.

Once I had heated it up in the kitchen on our floor, I started munching on it right away. God I had missed the taste of this. As I walked back to my room. I noticed it was noiser than normal. I could hear the pounding base and laughter. Once I reached my room I found out why. There was a party on the lawn right outside my window. I shut the window in an attempt to block out the noise.

Normally I would call up my friends and go join in. But tonight being by myself was what I wanted most. My food was finished in mere minutes and I was sad it was gone so quick. I definitely needed to eat that more often than not. I was full but I actually wanted some dessert. I went over to my backpack and pulled out a bag of chips. Perfect.

When I finished eating, I closed the window and drew the blinds. I've had enough excitement for one day. As the silence settled into the room, my thoughts got louder. Pretty soon all I could think about was Zac and how he kissed me.

I fell asleep right at the edge of the bed and that's how Leigh found me the next morning. He didn't come back last night. He had crashed at a friend’s place. I didn't ask who but I had my suspicions. Namely Peyton. I didn't push it though.

The next few days passed like that. Mostly just classes and the occasional shift. I didn't see Amelia at all and surprisingly I didn't miss her as much as I thought I would. We didn't talk at all and I was confused. We usually talked on a daily basis. Something had changed.

Today I went looking for her. She didn't answer any of my multiple calls or texts. I was frustrated. Why wasn't she picking up or replying? Really I was just worried.

I went over to her room and no one answered, it was empty. I leant against the door and waited over an hour. No one was in the corridor and it was strangely empty for this time of day. With no sign of her or anyone for that fact I got up and left.
