Chapter 5

Disappeared

 Alex’s POV

I don’t think he heard the first time I asked. He was holding up the line and customers were getting impatient.

“What’s your name?” I repeated, “So I can write it on the cup” I elaborated. I was finally going to find out what his name was.

“Oh right, sorry I was texting my friend, just write Zac” I nodded then froze. Zac, this is crazy, for him to have the same name as him…

“Is it with a k at the end?” I asked hoping it actually wasn’t a similarity. An interesting guy that had peaked my interests now having the same name as a guy I used to know.

“It’s Z-A-C” he spelt out to me, he moved to the side of the counter. I watched him as he resumed texting someone intently.

I quickly scribbled it onto the order distractedly and handed it to Swathi. I quickly served all of the customers in the line until it was closing time.

Zac was still at a table drinking his coffee and reading a magazine. I bit my lip and shuffled over to his table. He looked up at me as I approached. He shot me a kind smile and gave me his attention.

“It’s almost closing time” I picked up his finished coffee and wiped the table clean.

“Oh right, I’ll be going then…bye guy’s name I don’t know” he said smirking at me.

I gulped and turned away rushing behind the office door out of his watchful eyes.

There was something about him that was different from Leigh and Peyton. I don’t think I’ve met someone that had done this to me before. It was interesting.

I changed out of my uniform, shoving it all into a bag. I looked out from behind the door, coast was clear. I shook my head I was being stupid about this.

I shouldered my bag onto my back and turned off the lights. I took out my set of keys and locked the door. I looked through the window, double checking everything was done before walking back to my room.

I sat down on my bed comfortably and laid back against the pillow.

I was curious to say the least. I pulled my laptop towards me and started it up. I answered my friends texts asking me to come out for a few weeks to see them. But I declined their offer telling them I was busy with school and couldn’t afford to have to catch up.

Even though my course wasn’t especially difficult, I wanted to do well and get a reliable job after I was done with it. It meant no slacking off and putting 100% effort into all my classes.

I went onto Facebook and typed in Zac Locker. 1 result with 150 mutual friends came up. Curiously got the best of me and I clicked on his name. His profile picture was the default one and he didn’t have much photos since the end of his high school period.

I felt like a complete stalker, but I still didn’t close out of the tab.

It seemed like his Facebook wasn’t very active, the most recent post was from the start of last year. I didn’t used to have one, I only got it at the start of my senior year so that I could stay connected to my friends after leaving high school.
