Everyone in class stares at your direction, not because you're late but primarily because of Diluc's presence. Luckily, there is no teacher that has come by yet and you believed that the first period is Science. He wasn't usually dressed up normally as if he could blend in with the class per se. Even if there will be a school assembly at the gym, Diluc would still stand out.
Since you both were classmates back then, you believed that everyone else still remembers Diluc. But within the period you both were separated, he wasn't the boy who was cowering on the day you first met him. Instead, he proudly stood behind you as if he's ready to protect you from harm's way.
You did your best to put on a smile while clutching on your backpack's strap while walking towards the empty seats at the back. Diluc trails behind you, not minding the looks that you both get from the class.
"Did you really have to come to school with me? I can handle myself.." you mutter towards his direction but he just looks at you with a gaze of pure emptiness. "Are you sure you don't have.. any work to do?"
Diluc may be young, but he's already Venti's right-hand man. He may be older than you by a couple months, but it's rather impressive how far he has come in life. On the other hand, you're still struggling with answering math-related homeworks in school.
"Positive. Barbatos had told me to keep a good eye on you so here I am." The male leans against the desk with his elbows and scans the classroom. "This place is just the same as how I remembered it to be."
Before the male could leave the neighborhood, you and Diluc used to share classes together. Your seat would always be the back of his seat since he always has trouble with getting along with the other students. Even at lunch, you both would share the farthest table in the pantry or have lunch by the rooftop together.
At the end of class, you both would spend some time on the rooftop and admire the serene surroundings.
"It's been a while since we last shared classes together, huh?" You secretly place a grin on your face whilst feeling rather happy that he's back. "Let's have lunch again on the rooftop?"
