Many moonlight ago,
When we were still us, our forefathers lived in peace and harmony, the birds sang sweetly but the spears and arrows were SHARP.
We celebrated festivals, marriages, and HARVESTS.
But like every other race and culture, there were times we had rifts, rifts caused by our nature as humans, a POLITICAL BEING.
When there was any rift, the concerned parties come first for verbal wars, if this failed, they resulted in trade and allies war, this most time worked but there were times it didn't work, one of these is KIRIJI WAR.
Kiriji war is said to be the longest ethnic civil war the earth as witnessed, therefore its historical importance but as historical as this is, it is also long forgotten by many, not because it has been such a long time but because it took place in AFRICA.
It has always been my dream to write a Historical Fantasy not just because I am a history and International Studies major, I wanted to write a Historical fantasy because I felt it was something that matter, it was part of our past and without realizing what our past is, we cannot figure out what we are because our past is part of us, our present us and our future is what we will become, this is what we historians call the TRINITY OF TIME.
The Kiriji took place in West Africa, Yorubaland to be precise, I am Yoruba in case you didn't figure it out, this makes the story more important TO ME.
This story was spurred by prompt 45 of the Open Novella contest 2021, which goes thus.
I hope you enjoy and as well learn from this bittersweet capsule of history of what we can become BECAUSE OF WAR.
Welcome to Kiriji War.
