I woke up to the sound of a knock on my bedroom door. I hope to god it wasn't Mikasa. She's been bothering me from the moment I arrived home from the hospital yesterday. I understood she's concerned about me but no one likes a helicopter parent. Especially when that person isn't even your parent. Which scares me even more.
"Who is it?"
"Uhh- your dad. Are you up yet, I told you to be ready by 9:00 am."
Shit
"Uhh- Yeah just give me one second, I'll be right out!"
My dad told me yesterday when we arrived home from the hospital that he had a surprise for both me and Mikasa. And to be honest, I don't know whether to be excited or scared because his surprises don't always end great. The last surprise my dad decided to give me turned out to be a week holiday at some 'summer camp'. However, the 'summer camp' turned out to be a boy's home for juvenile kids. So for the whole 4 weeks that I was there, I was treated as though I'd murdered someone's whole family. And the kicker is I couldn't leave because they took away all our phones. I finally got picked up though when the staff contacted my dad saying I'd been badly beaten by one of the other kids. Although I'd disagree, I wasn't that badly beaten, and you should've seen the other guy.
"Eren!"
Oh yeah...
I made my way to the open living space to find Mikasa and our dad sitting on the couch. I took my place next to Mikasa and waited with anxiety for our dad to reveal this 'surprise' he's been talking about.
"After yesterday, the two detectives got in contact with me and told me more about what they think could've happened at the café. They have a vague idea that whoever fired the shot wasn't after your friend Armin. They were after you Eren."
"W-what, but why are they after me?!"
"They weren't quite sure on the details yet, but they seem to think that the shooter went after you to possible get to me."
Of course... It's always about him. Although that would be the logical explanation. Who would want to harm Armin? He's the kindest person I've met, even to people who shit on him during school. He's too kind for that matter.
I sat there, not too sure what to say to that. I wasn't shocked they wanted to come after me and my family, but I didn't think it'd be anytime soon. My dad isn't the nicest person in the world, and he's probably made some enemies, but what could he have done for someone to come after him and end his life.
"So that leads me to the surprise!" He says standing up and clapping his hands together, walking towards the kitchen where two cloaked figures stood. I didn't even realise they were there this whole time until right now.
"I thought that if there is some maniac out there trying to get to me and my family, I have to protect them somehow. And with my work and everything, I know I won't be able to be around you both 24/7. So..."
Our dad pulled off the white sheets covering both the figures, one being quite small in size while the other is about the same height as our dad. As soon as the sheets hit the floor, I felt Mikasa next to me shift in place from excitement. I, on the other hand, hated the two things that stood before me.
"I got you both a Kodiak Cyborg to protect you whenever I'm not here!" Our father was ecstatic about the idea, and so was Mikasa by the way she almost jumped out of her seat to check them both out.
I let out a frustrated sigh, quite enough my dad doesn't hear, then slowly made my way over to the machines standing before me.
The taller one had shoulder-length brown hair, which was pated in the middle, tied back with a hair tie. Its eyes were narrow and a deep brown with both being artificial. Their face littered with small light freckles, which covered their cheeks and pointy nose. They wore a loose t-shirt that flowed down just below the shoulder, revealing the cyborg body parts, which were both of their hands. The shorter on... I'd already seen it before. It was the one my dad brought out on stage to show off at the official release convention. The first one ever made.
