Katarina sat at the edge of the bench. Her brown eyes fluttered as the tears streamed down her face. Taking the cuff of her sleeve Katarina wipes the droplets off her face.
"Why are you crying?" Sirius stood at the entrance from the corridor.
"I'm not," Katarina sniffled trying to conceal her tears.
"Stop lying, I can see your stained sleeves," Sirius sat down beside her.
Katarina hid her sleeves behind her back as she stared off to the glistening sky.
"How did you get here anyway? I thought you went to Dumbledore's office," Sirius gently asked, his voice was soothing.
"I did, I suppose it was the adrenaline that pulled me to the astronomy tower," she laughed half-heartedly.
"Do you want to talk about what's wrong?" Sirius rubbed Katarina's back as she held in tears.
"Not really," she sighed into her palms still refusing to face Sirius.
"Are you still mad at me?" he asked clearly noting her adverting gaze.
"No, I just don't want you to see me like this" she cried, "I feel weak and pathetic".
"There's nothing wrong with crying, it's strong that you can cry openly. It shows the bravery and pride of a lion" he comforted, "I suppose that's why you were sorted into Gryffindor."
Katarina finally lifted her gaze to match Sirius'. He had beautiful grey eyes, she had never noticed that before.
"I'm sorry" he broke the silence, "I acted irrationally, I shouldn't have tried to push the blame to you."
"It's fine, I'm sorry too. For raising my voice like that to you," she averted her eyes, a bit ashamed.
"No, you were right. I thought about what you said. There was a part of me deep down that did want to fight Severus," he smiled.
"Did you not get along with Severus before?" she asked.
"James and I had never liked that greasy-haired fool" he looked annoyed just thinking about him, "he always stuck his nose into other people's business, I suppose that's why he's got such a big nose."
Katarina chuckled. This time it was genuine, she felt at ease with Sirius around.
"I think I'm ready to talk about it," Katarina took a deep breath.
"I'm all ears," Sirius smiled.
"I think you've noticed, I'm new. At my old school, I didn't have many friends but those who were, were dear to me. They were like family to me and now the separation is unbearable. The thought that I might not ever see them again scares me, it petrifies me," Katarina explained clutching her heart.
"I can understand that feeling. Though I'm not separated far or too long from them, during the break when I have to return to my family estate, I feel empty without my friends. I've grown fond of Remus, James and even Peter throughout these years. I can't contemplate how difficult it must be for you," Sirius held Katarina's hand in his own.
