He sat with his heads in his hands, feeling as if the world as he knew it was coming crashing down, and he could only hope that he would not be buried within it.
Previously...
He had been sitting on his bed, purposely trying to read from one of Mnemosyne's books, as they were the only text that possessed the power of knocking him out within a sentence or two . This particular one was all about the various plants found in and around Tethys, the river, not the goddess. His curiosity though, was powerful enough to keep him awake as the nightly frigid channels of underwater currents cooled his room through his windows. He was staying with the eldest of the titans, his uncle Oceanus, who had been nice enough to allow him shelter as he made his way across Gaea in search of a specific type of seaweed that was needed to make a healing salve that even prevented burns and could be applied underwater as well. This was being commissioned by his father, despite his many protests.
He sighed heavily as he yet again failed to fall asleep, his mind kept wandering off to the day's findings. He was roused from his thoughtful reverie as his overly keen ears picked up on the raised voices coming from the hallway adjacent to his bed chambers. He got up with barely a whisper and silently padded towards the noise.
"The prince is asleep. You cannot simply go in and awaken him, he deserves the rest after all the extensive search he has been doing. Bless that boy, he could be canoodling with the other naiads like your precious boy, but no, he has higher morals, does our prince."
Perseus was so taken with the merman's afflicted from severe burns from fending of a fire breathing kraken, that he had decided that something must be done to relieve him of his misery, and he had set off to find a cure, after slaying the kraken that is.
"But Sire, and I would like to beg pardon, but this missive is from the lord of titans, King Kronos himself, and I have instructions to not rest until this message reaches the young master."
"Surely it is not important enough to raise the poor prince from his sleep?"
"Sire, I'm not quite sure you understand the sheer importance of this letter reaching Lord Perseus. I have just spent a nycthemeron making a journey that takes a month to make. It is crucial that the prince receives it this very moment, asleep or not. King's orders." the person seemed to be worried rather than annoyed. As if this very message held the end of an age.
Perseus rounded the corner, one hand ruffling his hair into place as he looked upon the persons.
"Oh, Argus, old friend...What brings you here?" he exclaimed as he was met with the distressed sight of his oldest and most loyal friend.
"Perseus!" the cyclops pushed the merman guarding the doorway and hurriedly made his way to his friend, pushing a scroll into his hand.
Perseus regarded it with an air of confusion. His father would never send something this supposedly important through hand, especially on vellum. The cyclops immediately pulled him back to his room by his hand, closing the door behind him and casting a small eavesdropper's curse on it.
"It requires your blood, igetis." but caught Perseus's hand as it reached for his dagger, the one he kept sheathed, affixed to his side alongside his ribcage, at all times.
"Do not open it in my presence, as its contents are only meant for the heir's ears, I shall leave soon." he said ominously and sighed deeply as the prince frowned.
"What is meant for my ears can be heard by yours, agapite file, there is no difference in the both of us." yet even then the cyclops would not avail to this and took the dagger from his hand, running his fingers over it reverently, before returning it to its sheath.
"It is not the matter of friendship, you must receive this on your own. I am needed in a war meet, for the preparation, I'll take your leave now. We shall meet once you have been briefed" giving the scroll a meaningful glance and before the god could protest any further, the cyclops dissolved into green seasmoke, leaving a baffled prince in his wake.
