TW: angst, gun, threats
George and Nick both jumped up from the couch. Not only was it weird for a car to be in their drive way at midnight, but they knew that George's step dad was on his way. George stood, frozen, while Nick ran to the window. The glass was covered in a light layer of condensation, so he could hardly see out. He saw a man climb out of the driver's seat- who he suspected was George's step dad- before he watched Clay exit the car.
Nick saw the state of Clay, and nearly burst out crying. George couldn't see him like this. He was hurt, deliberate injuries everywhere, holes in his clothing, hands tied together with a piece of rope- it would break him.
Nick pulled the thin white curtains closed, and ran to George.
"George please can we get you out of here? George you can't see Clay like this and your step dad he- he's gonna hurt you. Please George we can get you out of here," Nick blurted out, slightly shaking George's shoulders.
George took a step back, "no Nick! I want to see Clay, I- I have to. And I'm not leaving you two alone with him." George's words were firm.
Nick sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose with his index finger and thumb. He noticed George walking towards the front door.
"No, I'll open it. Stand back," Nick ran in front of him, and watched as George took a few steps back. A few seconds later, there was a loud, powerful knock on the door. Nick braced himself, and turned the lock. The door creaked, but he didn't open it fully. Only about three inches.
Nick's eyes met with Clay's, who was standing to the left of the man.
"You okay?" Nick asked, ignoring George's step dad for a second. It was nice to see Clay's face again. He nodded, but they both knew that he wasn't okay.
"Who are you?" George's step dad asked rudely, looking Nick up and down and pulling a disgusted face.
Nick's eyes widened, "excuse me?" He took a deep breath to try and contain his anger, "I'm Clay and George's best friend. Who are you?" He asked, even though he knew exactly who it was.
"I'm the step dad, and I'm here for George." He said, smirking.
Before Nick could say anything, George had pushed past him and was know standing by the front door. He completely blocked out his step dad for a second, as him and Clay met eyes for the first time in too long. It had only been just over a day, but it felt like a week. George wanted to spring forward, and wrap his arms around Clay straight away, but he knew his step dad wouldn't approve of it. They stared at each other, weekly smiling with wide eyes, until George's step dad spoke up.
"George! It's so nice to see you, son," he said, an evil smirk was smeared across his face.
"I'm not your son." George retaliated. "Please just let me see Clay," he pleaded.
"I suppose you can have a few moments together, but then you're coming with me," he reached for the rope around Clay's wrists and untied it.
George had never seen Clay move so fast. He sprung forward and wrapped his arms around George, lifting him about five inches from the ground. They stood in the kitchen, arms suffocating each other and eyes on each other. Tears fell from George's eyes as Clay cupped his face. He connected their lips into a soft kiss, and George couldn't stop smiling. The feeling Clay's touch, and his kiss, it was the only thing he needed right now.
George pulled away and stared at Clay. "I'm so sorry-" be begun, but Clay interrupted.
"Shush," he put a finger over George's lips, "don't apologise. We're going to figure this out."
George shook his head as more and more tears fell, "Clay look at you, look what he's done to you." He placed a cold hand on a bruise on the side of Clay's neck, and heard him quietly wince in pain.
"Baby I'm so sorry." He embraced him into a warm hug."George, what should we do?" Clay asked, hearing George's step dad grow impatient. "I'm not letting you go with him, George."
George shook his head, he didn't know what to say. None of them knew what to do. George held out his arm to Nick, who took it and pulled both George and Clay in for a hug. They held each other for a while, before they heard George's step dad growing impatient.
"George, times up, come with me." He demanded.
Clay stepped forward in anger, "he's not going fucking anywhere with you."
A disgusting smirk smeared across the man's face. He pulled the gun out of his pocket and pointed it at Clay's chest. He peered over to George. "Don't come, and I kill him. Deal?"
George's heart pounded, and he ran in front of Clay.
"George don't, please," Clay's voice was shaky and full of fear.
George didn't listen to Clay, and he stood beside his step dad. "Clay, I can't-"
George's step dad started to walk towards the car, and George inhaled. He leaned forward and kissed Clay on the cheek, tasting his salty tears. Before Clay could do or say another single thing, George closed the front door and followed his step dad to the car. He didn't look back at the house, but he felt Clay and Nick watching him from the window. He climbed into the passenger seat of the car, next to his step dad. He lent his head against the cold glass and cried.
"Well, George. You never should have ran. But, now we have you back and I'm sure your mother will be thrilled to see you," George's step dad raised his hand to ruffle George's hair, "we may have to keep you in the basement, where I was keeping that little boyfriend of yours. Just to make sure you don't run again."
George shoved his dirty hand away from him. "Get off me. Why can't you just leave me alone? Let me be happy? And while you're at it, do the same for mom. You're an evil piece of shit," he spat.
George's step dad ignored him, and started running the old car. He pulled out of the driveway and they begun their route back to the abusive home.

Clay collapsed to the floor, and sobbed heavily. He could hardly catch his breath, he was such a mess. Nick fell next to him, and they hugged each other tightly. Nick burst into tears against Clay's shoulder, and they cried together.
"Nick why did I let that happen? I should have just let his step dad do what he wanted with me. We shouldn't have let George go again," Clay cried, each word separated with hiccups and sniffles.
Nick lifted his head, making eye contact with Clay, "listen, there was no way we were going to just let you be killed in front of our eyes, Clay. There was nothing we could do. Even if it takes some time, we'll get George back. I just- we need to figure out how. God I fucking hate this so much," Nick couldn't hold back his cries.
Clay fell onto his back, burying his face into his hands and banging his head against the hard floor. He already missed everything about George. His smile, his laugh, his touch, his kiss...his everything. The whole situation was a fucking tragedy.
