Avatar: What if you were there?

You and Norm were excited. "So, how much time have you logged," asked Grace.

"About 520 hours," said Norm.

"That's good," she replied. "You?"

"200," you said

"Alright." She showed Norm his link unit and then showed me mine.

"Good luck," you said to Norm. He smiled and said,

"Same to you. See you soon I guess."

You watched Jake, who obviously hadn't logged any time and laughed internally. You laid flat in your link and closed the door over you. You tried to stay calm and let your mind go blank. Then it went dark.

You opened your eyes but everything was blurry. In the fuzziness you made out two figures. They shined a flashlight in your eyes. You saw the lady snap next to your ear and faintly heard it. She tried again and it slowly cleared up.

"How are you feeling?" she asked. You smiled

"Hello there," you said, sitting up. They warned you to take it slow and you tried to. They kept asking you questions and you tried to answer them. You looked at Norm, who was doing fine. You moved your toes and fingers when you saw Jake stand up. Oh god.

You started getting nervous. "Sit down, Jake," you said. "They're gonna put you out if you don't."

It was like he didn't hear you. They were gonna sedate him. You looked at Norm for support and he just shook his head. Then Jake ran out. You and Norm took out the leads and rushed after him. You felt uncomfortable with what you were wearing but that wasn't important right now.

You and Norm passed two other avatars playing basketball and chased Jake. He was fast. Luckily, you were a track runner. You ended up catching up to him, leaving Norm in the dust.

Jake suddenly stopped and you nearly tripped over him. He was filled with joy and looked down at his toes. You realized. He hadn't been able to feel those in a long time. You smiled. "How does it feel?"

"Awesome." His eyes were alight.

"Hey." You turned to see Graces' avatar.

"Grace?" asked Jake.

"Well who'd you expect numbnuts." she plucked two fruits. "Think fast." You each caught a fruit. "Motor controls looking good." she smiled.

You and Jake bit into the fruit. It was amazing. You both chuckled appreciatively. Then Norm came up, completely winded. You put your arm around him and offered some of your fruit. He took it and had the same reaction.
