While I was picking up the clattered weapons from the floor with Jonathan, a familiar voice made my head turn;

"Ugh weapons." he said.

"MAX!!!" I screamed , running over to my big, blue ice cream truck and climbing his shoulders.

Now don't take me wrong, I don't call him a big, blue ice cream truck as an insult.. He is big and blue and loves ice cream...

Max Lightwood Bane is also my cousin.. He is Uncle Alec's and Uncle Magnus' adopted child.. And he is a warlock. He was named after my other uncle, Uncle Max, who was killed in the dark war.. when he was just nine..

Max's blue skin is his warlock mark. Every warlock has a mark which basically sets them apart from the others. Max also has horns on his head that he regularly gets trimmed so as to blend with others. As for Uncle Magnus- who is also a warlock- his mark are his cat eyes with vertical slits.. I've always been super intrigued by his eyes.

Warlocks, also known as Children of Lilith, are an immortal race of downworlders, offsprings of demons and humans, typically mundanes .

Lilith is a Greater Demon who is credited as the "mother of all Warlocks " and the "first of all demons. "

Demons are malevolent, inter-dimensional beings that travel between worlds, destroying everything in their path. They return to their home dimension the Void (the great, empty spaces between worlds) , when they die in their corporeal form. Religiously, they are defined as Hell's denizens and the servants of Satan. Demons come in a large variety of species and forms, their numbers said to be infinite.

"Greater Demons" have some aspects in common: human-level intelligence, personalities, and names. They are considered the upper class in the demonic hierarchy. The greatest of Greater Demons were originally angels who fell from Heaven.

"You really need to stop climbing me every time you see me" he said, holding my legs so I don't trip while he high fives Jonathan.

"I didn't know you'd be coming too." Jonathan said.

"Dad made sure that I didn't skip this.. He literally texts me five times a day reminding me of the family dinner-" Max said, "I mean- I WAS ON A DATE YESTERDAY AND MY PHONE WOULDN'T STOP BEEPING FROM TEXTS FROM THE CONSUL ASKING ME TO SHOW UP FOR DINNER."

The Consul is the highest appointed official in The Clave.

The Clave is the collective name for the political body made up of all active Shadowhunters . The Clave keeps and interprets the law, and makes decisions about the guidance of the Nephilim through history as it unfolds and decides on important matters that affect the Nephilim, which also sometimes affect the Downworlders .

I snorted, followed by Jonathan who burst out laughing, "who even agreed to go on a date with you?" I asked.

"That's exactly the point y/n.." Max whined, "I finally found a girl who was interested.. and she was so beautiful.. so nice... she was a vampire.. I met her in the Paris Shadowmarket-"
