Song Recommendation - My Strange Addiction - Billie Eilish
The sound of the metal door hitting the wall startled the young teen. Their vision was blurry when the door slammed shut. Groaning in annoyance, they knew that only one culprit would have access to this room.
"Schlatt, what are you doing outside of your room?"
The man sauntered over casually, a steaming bowl of what looked like rabbit stew in his hands.
"Schlatt, I swear if you're feeding me rabbit-"
"Yeah Yeah, (Your Name), I made it with chicken. I know you don't enjoy eating rabbit."
He rolled his eyes as he made his way to the hammock. Sitting up, with their knees near their chest, (Your Name) accepted the bowl that was held out to them. Sitting down on the opposite side of the hammock, Schlatt leaned back, letting his back rest on the wall without jostling his companion too much.
Moving the wooden spoon that laid inside the bowl, stirring the stew, the potion's protege questioned their companion's intentions.
"I'm checking on you of course. You've been working for almost three days at this point."
"Your point is?"
"You should really take a break, both of us know that you need it."
"Why? Is it because you don't want me to end up like you?"
Their words came out harshly, causing their eyes to widen. Schlatt just frowned, shaking his head.
"I'm so sorry, I didn't mean it to come out-"
"It's fine (Your Name). Besides, you aren't far off the mark. I don't want you to end up like me, obsessive over power and control to the point that you lose yourself in the process."
(Your Name)'s eyes began to glaze, the guilt overwhelming them. Even if Schlatt said it was okay, it didn't mean that they had the right to bring it up, especially now.
"You know, there's something I've been meaning to ask you (Your Name)?"
They just hummed in response, their mouth full of the of warm stew, savouring the taste of it.
"Why did you save me, back then?"
"Why wouldn't I save you Schlatt?"
He stared at them blankly, as if beckoning them to give him a more thorough response. Sighing, the potions protege placed the half full bowl of stew against the floor.
"I saved you because death wouldn't have been the correct solution to deal with those who act like a tyrant.
Schlatt, I'm not going to sugar coat it and say that you were mislead down the wrong path, and pity you, instead I'll give it to you straight.
This is my point of view, and I'm not going to change it so that you're more comfortable. Are you okay with that?"
Schlatt nodded his head in approval.
"L'manburg saw you as a villain. You were their villain. Yet, you were the hero in your own mind. You both may have disagreed, and everyone's moral spectrum will never be the same, but there are some things that can be agreed upon.
No one wants their freedom taken away from them. If you were in their shoes, you would have hated it. You thought that Wilbur was the problem with democracy, but that was the only way that the people could give their input.
They want their voices to be heard, not be ignored. After all, they are the people that are living in the land, they shouldn't be the second choice, nor the third. The people should be the priority.
When I saw you laying on the ground, bleeding out and in excruciating pain, I knew I couldn't leave you.
You were blinded by your wishes, your 'morals' that you were selfish and only thought about life for yourself.
Yet, there will always be people who are like you. Consumed with the need for power, the need to control everything, no. matter how big or little they are.
If we killed all of them, it could definitely be argued as 'immoral' let alone murder. Death is not a solution for these situations.
People aren't born this way, they aren't born hungry for power that will never save them from famine, an extreme thirst for control that will never quench it. No, people learn these kinds of things, whether it's from a friend, a loved one, or a stranger, you always learn these things.
I knew that there was room for change, room for understanding and you need someone with patience that could help you learn. Someone who could see both point of views, someone to help you understand why the things you did are not socially acceptable.
I couldn't bear to leave you bleeding out. You were just blinded by your own ideals, and no one had enough time to help you learn. No matter the amount of reasoning they tried to do with you, you would only cause 3x the pain for the people.
They were desperate, and in need of a fast solution. Besides, what's faster than assassinating someone?
I knew that I would have the time to help you, to heal your wounds and for you to see the world in a different light."
Schlatt said nothing, only raising his arm to lay his hand on top of (Your Name)'s head.
"You're a good kid, you know that?"
He smiled gently at them, causing them to return the grin.
"I suppose what you told me was true (Your Name)." Schlatt let out a laugh, causing the deity to be set on edge.
"I've said a lot of things, what did I tell you?"
"You once told me, that wisdom does not come with age, but rather age comes with wisdom."

*BONUS*
"Come on you goof, let's go get you some food and eat together."
"Sure thing Schlatt, just be careful-"
It was too late for the said man, as he stepped on the bowl full of cold stew, causing him to fall back into the hammock. The momentum caused the hammock to flip over, flinging (Your Name) upside down before it dropped them.
"DAMNIT SCHLATT!"
{Schlatt's powers are to be revealed in the next chapter...}
{I figured that it wasn't necessary to add in all of the powers this chapter so I'm leaving them out.}
{Enjoy your two chapters!}
