The Greenie had started her week of rotating jobs. Yesterday she helped the Slicers. That truly wasn't a success to say the least. She felt bad for the animals and had to cry eventually. She even threw up once, after which she was dismissed by Winston. He was the keeper of the slicers and he was quite nice to her. She had received a few glares from her fellow Gladers but luckily she had Chuck to cheer her up. Newt, Thomas and Minho also became closer friends of the Greenie. The four boys always seemed to find a way to make every situation less unbearable.

Today the girl would be working with the Builders. Which should be interesting considering the fact that Gally was the Keeper of the Builders and she had a rough start with him.

"Okay Greenie, you follow my orders and no slacking on the job today. Also you can call me Captain. Understood?" Gally asked.

"Understood." The girl repeated back to him. Gally gave her a disapproving look.

"Captain." She added unsure. It sounded really weird to her to call someone captain. She just wanted this day over though and didn't want to cause any trouble so she just went with it.

"You start today with building some walls. Go over there and they'll instruct you on what to do." Gally pointed to a place where some boy was working on building a wall. She walked over and introduced herself. As far as she could do so without knowing her name.

"Hi, I'm the Greenie and I guess I'll be helping you today." She said to the boy.

"Hello uhm my name is Xavier." The boy introduced himself. Xavier reached out his hand and they shook hands. He was muscular and he had fiery red hair which contrasted with his grey eyes. He looked to be seventeen or eighteen.

The pair started working and immediately clicked. He was busy with some saw and the Greenie just watched him. He had asked her to hold one end of the wooden piece he was sawing. She felt like she wasn't really helping.

"Have you made any friend yet?" Xavier asked.

"So far I've become friends with Chuck. I've mostly been friendly with his friends but I think most people here don't really like me that much." The Greenie replied. Xavier chuckled.

"Most people here aren't that nice anyway. So you don't have to think it's you. People who aren't nice to you are stupid anyway." Xavier said.

"Why do you say that?" she asked. She didn't understand why he was being so nice to her.

"They're missing out on a nice girl. Their loss I suppose." Xavier replied. He looked up from sawing and gave the Greenbean a smile. He then continued working. The Greenbean put a lock of hair behind her ear that had fallen in front of her face. She tried patting some saw dust out of the dark hair. She really needed some hair elastics she thought.

"How are you so sure I'm nice anyway? For all you know I'm so sort of shuckface." The girl said. This incited a laugh from Xavier.

"I'm just trusting you are I suppose." Xavier replied. "Who are Chuck his friends anyway?" He then asked.

Xavier had stopped sawing and had stood up whilst holding a piece of wood. The Greenie handed him a hammer and some nails and they got to work.

"Newt, Thomas and Minho. Do you know them? So far them seem quite nice." The girl replied.

Xavier laughed heartedly. "Chuck is nice you know, but I don't know about those other boys."

"What do you mean?

"Well first of all Newt can be a real drill sergeant and he bosses everyone around. Thomas thinks he's too good for the rules or something and his friends just let him break every single one of them. He's also very egotistical." Xavier defended his opinion. The Greenie thought it was a lot to take in. She had not viewed these people as Xavier had characterised them.
