Chapter 6

I asked Taren to confirm my suspicions and he did, at the same time explaining to me that the spirits rarely trusted mortals and some things in the Fade had to be hidden from the mortals so that they could not corrupt it.

I asked what these things were and again Taren’s face contorted and he told me that there were 299 unique locations in the Fade which could not be replicated by spirit nor demon thus these were constantly occupied by one or the other.

I asked Taren how this was any different from the boundaries in the mortal world and he told me that these locations bestowed unique and powerful magics unto those that occupied it spirits or demons. Then he went on to ask me what I was going to do now. For a moment I could not answer for the gravity of the situation was still sinking in to me so it repeated the question and I said that I would go towards Ulth’Wakai.

It seemed surprised so I asked it why it was surprised and it told me that spirits did not allow mortals anywhere near a Fade Citadel or any of the other Unique Locations that they hold. So I replied that it seemed to have forgotten that I held one of the seven pieces of creation and that it could supposedly manipulate the Fade according to my will. It said that it did not know whether the piece was capable of something like this so he asked to accompany me to the Gate to Ulth’Wakai. I agreed on the condition that it was not trying to manipulate me somehow. So we started to walk to the end of the Bridge and suddenly we were at its end and we came out to a lookout point of some sort and there it was.
