Miles Edgeworth was a typical sort of 'nerdy' teenager. He was 16 years old, with a passion for reading and studying. Outside of classes, he would study, read, play chess, or, on the odd occasion, spend time with his friends. He didn't have a massive group of friends, but he was content with the ones he did have.
The date was the 21st of December. Cold classrooms filled with students all bundled up in coats, most packing away for the day. Except for three boys, sitting to the side, talking. One, Miles Edgeworth. The others, his friends. Their names were Phoenix Wright and Larry Butz. The three had been friends from around 3rd grade, after an incident with some lunch money(which Larry had soon owned up to taking). Miles was sitting in a seat by the windows of the classroom, wrapped up in a coat and scarf, his natural grey hair framing his face. Larry sat on the desk beside his, using Edgeworth's desk as a footrest, and Phoenix leant on the wall, to the side. They were discussing when they would next meet, the date being the last day of school before holidays. Miles had suggested they meet up the weekend before they returned to school, which the other two agreed with. On that note of having satisfied the question, the three took to leave, walking to the front gate of the school together. Phoenix slipped on gloves and a hat(which was oddly shaped due to his interesting shaped hair), and Larry, though definitely cold, wore nothing of extra protection. Upon reaching the gates, the three said their goodbyes and merry Christmas's before heading off in separate directions to walk home.
Miles didn't live all that far from the school, only a few blocks over, so he never drove(or got driven) to school. On arrival home, he took his scarf off with a relieved sigh as his body was enclosed with the warmth of the radiator by the door. His house was oddly neat and pristine, nothing out of place. The only people living there were himself and his father, Gregory Edgeworth. Gregory Edgeworth was a lot like Miles personality wise, which was a good thing. His father was a rather well known defense attorney, which Miles aspired to. He's always wanted to be just like his father.
The 16 year old hear noise coming from living room, so went to investigate. He was pleasantly surprised by his father standing in the kitchen. Well, almost, Gregory couldn't cook. The reason Miles was surprised was his father was usually home after him, working till late at the offices. So, seeing the man home before him raised his spirits on the cold winter evening. Miles soon took over the job of cooking dinner, his father putting on the evening news, before the two sat on their sofa to enjoy the meal.
It had been the two of them since Miles was young. His mother had been missing since Miles was 4. The two had been devastated to come home and find her gone, a note left saying that she had been taken. But they had never found her, even with the help of police. After a few years, they had just assumed she was dead, and decided it was time to let go. The Edgeworth's had become used to being just the two and found a new normal way of living. They'd considered on multiple occasions to get a dog, but never went through with it, always finding excuses to put it off and say no.
But, on the Friday the 4th of January, Miles Edgeworth's world would be changed forever...
