A New Captain

Rosa groaned and flopped her arm across the bed to her beside table, trying desperately to turn her alarm clock off. "Oh for God's sake," she muttered, grabbing the clock and flinging it onto the floor. She heard a crack as it hit the floor and put her head in her hands.

What a great start to the day.

She frowned as she took in the fact it was still dark; why had her alarm gone off so early? Suddenly, she remembered... she'd set it earlier today, because today was not a normal day. Today was the day the new captain was joining the 99. Nobody was happy about it but Holt had always dreamed of becoming commissioner and the squad was very proud that he had achieved his goal, even if it did mean a new member of the 99.

She stood slowly, stretched and headed to the bathroom, yawning as she splashed cold water on her face and dragged a hairbrush through her wild curls. According to her watch it was only 10 past 6 in the morning - she had plenty of time before she was needed at work but she wanted to make a good first impression. She snorted as she thought how much Amy was rubbing off on her. She never would've normally cared, but Amy was anxious about a new captain, and with all the change that was going on at the moment, they needed to stick together. If getting up an hour earlier would make Amy happy, it was worth it. Rosa was nothing if not a good friend.

*TWO HOURS LATER, 8:30 AM*

"When's the new captain arriving?" Jake checked his computer and frowned - it wasn't a great first impression for the captain to be half an hour late already.
"I'm sure he's just in traffic," Amy said panicking. She opened her thick binder she'd made for the occasion and attempted to drag her fingers through her tightly braided hair.
Gina raised her eyebrow at Amy and turned her attention back to her phone. Rosa rolled her eyes; Gina wasn't always the kindest of friends. "Hey Ames," she said, sitting on the edge of her friend's desk. "You okay?"
"Yes of course," Amy babbled. "I'm just excited and I hope he gets- remember to keep all our desks tidy," she murmured, distracted by her notes. Rosa cringed and hurried over to Jake.
"Dude you're gonna need to tidy your desk. She'll have an aneurysm if she sees- crap." She took a step back as Amy stormed towards them, furiously unbraiding her hair.
"PERALTA! Do you not see how messy your desk is? That's a terrible first impression! He'll be here any moment, you need to get a move on- ohhhh, thanks Rosa," she smiled, picking up the box of Nicotine patches Rosa had casually slid across the table to her.

*FORTY MINUTES LATER*
"Good morning," Captain Rogers smiled, sauntering into the bullpen. "So, you're my new detective squad! Nice to meet you. Detective... detective Diaz," he said slowly, scanning the room and resting his eyes on the curly haired Latina. "Come with me please."

Rosa raised her eyebrow and followed her new captain into his new office. Was it just her or had his introduction been a little strange?
"Please shut the door," he said, "and take a seat."
Rosa did as she was told.
"I have a task for you."
"Sir, I already have lots of cases i'm working. i'm not sure i can-"
"Not that kind of task Diaz."
Rosa paused. "Sorry, Captain, i don't think i understand."
Rogers smiled. "I know you and your squad have always been tight. Have you ever lied to anybody in the 99?"
"Well there's things they don't know about me, but no not really. Why?"
"Because," he said slowly, "There's nothing i don't know about you, Detective Diaz, and you'd be very foolish to put anything past me."
