Peter stepped outside, the cool air of the night waking him up. He had been studying for his calculus test all day long and needed a break. His first idea was to go see Gracie, he knew she would be awake, being that it was only 10:30, but she wasn't in her room. He wandered around, looking for her in all her favourite places in the compound, the library, the gym, the common room, but she was nowhere to be found. There was only one other place she would be, the roof. Gracie would go up to the roof when she was stressed or just needed to get away from everyone, but tonight while she was up there for a different reason.
Peter walked across the roof towards Gracie, she was sitting wrapped in a blanket watching the stars. Peter approached quietly, she knew he was there, and he knew that. He sat down next to her and took a deep breath,
"Hey, what are you doing up here?" she questioned, not taking her eyes off the stars.
"Needed a break from studying, my brain is turning to mush," he chuckled a little, "how about you, why are you up here?"
"Needed someplace quiet to think." She sighed
"About what?"
"I don't know." She knew what she was thinking about. She was thinking about Peter, but she couldn't tell him that. Gracie's feelings for Peter had grown over that last few months, at first she pushed it off as just another schoolgirl crush, but her feelings for him just kept getting stronger and stronger. She constantly denied her crush on him, but then one night after a particularly tough mission, Peter was laying in her bed with his head resting in her lap, they were watching a movie and Peter had fallen asleep hugging her legs. Her heart fluttered and she felt like she was going to explode, she knew it was more than a crush and it killed her that he probably didn't feel the same way about her.
"You don't know what you're thinking about?" He looked at her, hoping she would get the hint and look up. "Gracie, c'mon what's up?"
"I don't know, just some guy." She hoped that was enough of an answer and he'd drop it, of course he didn't,
"What do you mean some guy?"
She sighed knowing she would have to explain herself without completely humiliating herself. "There's this guy that I like, he is amazing, he's kind, thoughtful, knows how to make me laugh when I'm sad, he knows me better than I know myself, he is always there for me, even though he has so much more he needs to worry about," she grinned.
"And...? What's the catch?"
"I don't think he feels the same way about me, and deep down I know he's too good for me."
"Gracie, you're so amazing, you deserve the world and so much more, I'm sure if you just talked to him, he might feel the same." Peter felt like he was dying, he hated the fact that Gracie had feelings for someone else. He had had a crush on her since he bumped into her in the gym, she was so cool about it and even offered to help him with his training. He didn't want her to be with anyone else but him, and yet here he was telling her to go out and get this guy.
They fell silent, both of them lost in their heads. This was it, this was the make or break moment, she was going to tell him how she felt. She sat up and turned to face Peter.
"Hey Peter," she hesitated
"Yeah"
"Um- I um- I like you, like, like you like you, a lot, and I totally understand if you don't feel the same way,"
"Gracie-"
"I just thought you should know, I have felt like this for months,"
"Gracie-"
"I just- You make me so happy and I-"
Gracie was cut off my Peter's lips descending onto hers. He cupped her cheek and pulled her closer to him. She melted into the kiss, her heart rate sped up, and she felt like she was going to explode. When he pulled away, she looked like a deer in the headlights,
"Oh no, Gracie I'm so sorry, I just thought-" This time it was her cutting him off.
"No no no no no, I liked it, I like you." She blushed under his gaze
"I like you too," now they were both blushing, "can I um- can I kiss you again?"
"I would be offended if you didn't." she giggled, leaning forward cupping his jaw.
It was 3:30 in the morning now, Gracie was asleep on Peter's chest wrapped in her blanket and his arms, they would have to be up for training and school in two and a half hours, but neither of them wanted to move, and they were fine with that. They were enjoying the moment and they never wanted it to end.
