Summary: Gracie gets asked to the school dance that she didn't want to go to, but what will Steve and Bucky do when she comes home crying?

Warnings/Trigger warning: AU, angst, a touch of violence, stucky family, fluff, explicit language, I don't know how to phrase it but I guess it would be verbal abuse (guy gets turned down and starts yelling at Gracie) just so you're aware

Word Count: I lost count after I started editing, over 1700

A/N: This fic takes place before my tiktok where Steve and Bucky show up at Gracie's school, meaning that nobody at her school knows she's a superhero yet. I also know nothing about homecoming dances, but I tried my best. Thank you for all the love<3

Being the daughter of two superheroes, and being a superhero herself, Gracie often tried to stay in the shadows at school. It's not that she didn't want to get involved in school activities or that she didn't want to make friends, she just didn't want people to treat her differently, she wanted to have something normal in her life. When you're a superhero the entire world looks up to you and is counting on you, you're constantly worrying about what's going to happen when you're out on the field, but when you're a high school student the only thing you have to worry about is passing your English finals.

It was the last week of September and the homecoming dance was in three days, the hallways were buzzing with excitement. Dance proposals filled all the empty space between classes, and everyone was talking about their dates. Although Gracie never even wanted to go to the dance, she was taken aback when her chemistry partner, Ryan Turner, the captain of the volleyball team, asked her to go with him. Of course she said yes, she wasn't going to humiliate him by saying no in front of everyone in the school, Gracie may have a resting bitch face, but she has a heart.

*BACK AT THE COMPOUND AFTER SCHOOL*

"What the hell am I supposed to do Peter?" Gracie groaned, flopping down onto her bed. "I didn't even want to go to this stupid thing, but then he asked and I couldn't just say no, I didn't want to hurt his feelings!"

"Gracie Sarah Barnes," Peter tsked and shook his head, "you're too nice, you have to stop letting guilt guide your decisions." He was sitting in Gracie's bean bag chair doing his homework, not even looking up to talk to her.

"I know, but what was I supposed to do? Turn him down in front of the whole school?"

"YES, that's exactly what you're supposed to do!" He shot up off the chair and walked over to her bed. "You're not even attracted to him, you just said yes cause you're too good of a person." he was sitting beside Gracie now, running his hand up and down her arm because he could clearly tell that she was frustrated with herself. "Look, here's the deal, you're gonna go to the dance with Ryan," she interrupted with a groan, "as I was saying before I was so rudely interrupted, you're gonna go to the dance, and try to have fun, I will be there too and if at any point you want to ditch, we can, but you have to stay for at least 20 minutes, got it?"

"Fine, but I don't have a dress." Gracie sat up and looked at her closet.

"That's okay, Nat and Wanda can help you find something! Now, onto something more fun," he changed the subject, "wanna go get fro-yo?"

"Absolutely I do!"

The next two days flew by and suddenly it was Friday night and Gracie was getting ready for the dance. Wanda and Natasha had picked out a lavender deep v, a-line dress, that poofed out when she would spin around, they paired it with a nice pair of silver heels and silver jewelry. Gracie sat in her computer chair while Nat and Wanda did her makeup and Bucky did her hair, growing up with a little sister he got pretty good at up-do's. They finished getting her ready and the girls excused themselves, leaving Bucky alone with his daughter, he couldn't believe she was already in junior year and was growing up so quickly. Bucky had always been protective of Gracie, she was his little girl for Christ's sake, but as she stood in the mirror in front of him, he knew that she was growing up and could protect herself. He and Steve walked her to the garage where Peter was waiting with one of Tony's cars. Gracie loved her dads, but she would never let them drive her to her school dance. They said their goodbyes and told her to have fun and with that Peter pulled out of the garage and started driving towards the school.
