ROBBIE
I wasn’t too proud to admit that I was missing Clementine and Vivienne today. She was going to be gone most of the day with work and then helping Akira plan the quickie wedding. She and Graham were getting married at the ranch this weekend and Clementine promised her that she’d take her to find a dress after she finished up her workday. After taking some time off, Vivienne was now back to school and that meant that there was not much to do all day except missing them.
There are times I try to wrap my head around how quickly my life changed, but even looking back it seems almost impossible. I went from dragging through day-to-day life with feeling no real reason or purpose to having a girlfriend and a daughter that were my world. Not to mention, all of the wedding talk that has been happening over the last two days has made me start thinking about my future. There is no doubt in my mind that Clementine is it for me.
I want to marry her, get a bigger house, and fill it with a shit ton more babies. I guess that is probably something I should discuss with Clem, but I don’t think she’d argue with me much. I want to be there and present during a pregnancy and our baby growing. I’ve seen pictures of her pregnant with Vivienne and she’s shared videos of Vivi as she was growing up, but none of those are a replacement for actually being there. They’ve saved me from drowning and breathed life into me, I need the both of them...and more.
Since the girls were going to be gone, I called up Graham and asked if he wanted to grab lunch with me, I figured we could catch up a bit, especially since he won’t be in town for long. I know he has a really close relationship with Clem and I want things between us to be good before I leave.
Right as I grab the keys to my truck, the doorbell rings, I toss my jacket over my shoulder and answer the door where a mail carrier stands with an envelope. “Hello, are you Robert Styles III?”
“Uh, yeah that’s me.”
“Oh great, I have this piece of certified mail for you. I was at the location on the address, but you were not there. The gentleman working the storefront said that you lived here now.”
“Yeah, I do. Who is the mail from?”
He looks down at the envelope, “Um, actually I need to verify your identity and have you sign for it first.”
“Yeah, sure.” I take my ID out and he takes a quick look before handing me his tablet to sign my name. With all the information he needs, he places the envelope in my hand and gives me a quick wave.
“Thank you, Mr. Styles, have a great day.”
“Yeah, you too,” I respond, waving back. I lock up the house and get into my truck before taking a look at the envelope. I don’t recognize the name on the envelope, but when I rip open the outside envelope, I immediately recognize the business stamp on the inside envelope.
“Oh what the hell now?” SoCal Naval Tech and Defense is a company based out of San Diego, near where my dad is currently working. They’re known for technology development that is shared through their government contracts. My dad works for a similar company, but one of his SEAL buddies is in a high position in this company.
Sure enough, when I open the letter and begin to scan through it, I see all the words that are just pissing me off. It is a job offer that would include a signing bonus and a living expenses stipend. In addition, they’d pay for my move and assist me with any relocation needs. Undoubtedly, this is the work of my father. Angry and annoyed, I toss the letter in the passenger’s seat and drive down to Nikki’s.
