CLEMMY

“Alright, Manny, you’re good.” I take the cape off of my client and do a quick run through his hair with my fingers. For an older guy, Manny has kept his dark brown hair with no extra grays and he’s looking good with a fresh new cut.

“It looks great, just like always, Clemmy. Can I get scheduled for another cut next month?”

“Of course, let’s get you checked out and schedule your next cut.”

The two of us walk up to the front counter and he pays for his cut, plus a nice tip, and I get him on the books for next month. With close to thirty minutes before my next appointment, I take the opportunity to grab something to eat since I’m not sure when I’ll be able to sneak in a lunch. With my bagel and cream cheese in one hand, I pull out my cell phone to check in on Robbie who is working in the next town over today.

Me: Hey hot stuff, what are you up to?

Robbie: Just cleaning out some pipes.

Me: Excuse me? I thought we agreed to be in a monogamous relationship.

Robbie: Trust me, Clementine, if your pipes were like this, I’m not sure we could be together.

Me: I guess it is a good thing that I keep everything nice and clean, huh?

Robbie: So fucking nice and clean.

Me: That reminds me, I need to get in for a beauty day, get that wax done and everything.

Robbie: I kind of hate you right now. How the hell am I supposed to work with a hard-on?

Me: I don’t know, I’ve never had that problem.

Robbie: You’re going to be in so much trouble tonight.

Me: Looking forward to it. *winky emoji*

“Clemmy?” Tilly knocks on the break room door and startles me to the point that I almost drop my phone. Perhaps I shouldn’t be so into sending dirty text messages full of sexual innuendos to Robbie.

“Yeah, what’s up?”

“Are you okay?” She gives me an odd look.

“Yeah, I’m fine, just startled me. What’s up?’

“There is an older gentleman out here asking for you. I checked and he isn’t on your appointment book, but I guess maybe just a walk-in if you have time?”

“Sure, I’m just going to wash up and I’ll be right there. Thank you, Till.”

“Of course.”

I toss my trash away and wash my hands before heading out to the main room. TIlly is in the middle of her haircut, but she motions to the gentleman with his back turned to me. He doesn’t look like he needs a haircut, so I’m a little confused, but then he turns around. The rage that fills instead of me almost blows over like a volcano when he has to audacity to smile at me.

“Clemmy, how are you?”

“Mr. Styles,” I say with a minimal amount of emotion.

“You can call me, Robert, you know?”

“I prefer not to.”

“Clemmy, is that honestly how it is going to be? It’s been what? Six years?”

“It’s been seven since you threatened to have the cops called on me when I was standing on your front step alone and scared, but begging with Robbie’s phone number, not that anybody is counting though, huh?”
