As Sora was busy reading a gothic horror novel, she heard the sound of a door slam and someone coming into the house. "Nikei, hello. I take it that you couldn't find what you were looking for or something?"
"I encountered a whole bunch of bullshit is what I did!" the journalist fumed, crashing onto a chair and rubbing his head. "I wanted to get a scoop about the new military vehicles in use, but they're in a restricted area. Those fuckers won't even let journalists in!"
"A restricted area? Maybe you'll have to sneak in then," Sora suggested. "I'd suggest using the sewer system, but knowing you, you'll probably be needing my help to lift up manhole covers, gates, and things."
"The sewer system?! There are probably better ways than that!" Nikei protested, standing up from the couch.
"Well, do you have a better idea in mind?" Sora put down her book and crossed her arms. "There's nothing we can do. It's the only way you have into a restricted area."
Twenty minutes later, Nikei had taken Sora with him as his 'assistant' as they tried to navigate the sewer system using google maps. "This is gross, this is so, so gross..." Nikei quietly whined, holding onto Sora as he used his phone as a flashlight.
"Be quiet, you'll get us caught," Sora hissed, holding onto Nikei as well and directing him by gently pushing him in the correct directions. She didn't like doing this either, but if it saved her from hearing Nikei bitching about not getting a scoop all night, so be it.
After a few more minutes of walking, Nikei saw a light above them and stopped, turning off his phone light. He nudged Sora to show her where they were on google maps, and he smiled excitedly. Sora took a guess that they had reached their destination.
There was a ladder to climb up to get to the manhole cover, which Sora knew that she would be able to lift. As the albino took the lead and began to climb the ladder, Nikei turned away from her and waited. She had told him before that she would deck him if he looked up her skirt, and he knew very well how hard she could hit.
Sora slowly lifted the manhole cover just enough to peek out, and she looked around. There wasn't anyone nearby, so she continued to push the manhole cover aside and climbed out. "Come on!" she whispered, and Nikei hurried up the ladder to join her.
The two of them immediately ran to the side of a building for cover. "Alright, the vehicles should be nearby. We just have to head to the east without getting spotted," Nikei reported, and he looked carefully in the direction he was going for any personnel before running to another building for cover.
Sora followed him closely, not wanting him to get into a mess he couldn't pull himself out of. She had to save him a few times in the past, but she was hoping that this event wouldn't end up with him owing her yet another favour for her actions.
It wasn't long before Nikei and Sora found the military vehicles, though Nikei could only get pictures and a description of them from a distance. Sora refused to let him go any closer since she spotted soldiers around them. After a few minutes, the journalist showed her his notepad full of information, and she nodded her agreement that he was done.
As it turned out, getting out was harder than getting in. The personnel on patrol had came into their route and blocked them from going back to the manhole cover, so they had to come up with a new plan. Fortunately, Nikei had the idea of hiding inside a truck that was bound to go outside the restricted area, and he and Sora hid there.
As soon as they got out of the restricted area using the truck, they quickly jumped out and began running back home, not planning to be caught by the government anytime soon. It took about fifteen more minutes to get back home.
As soon as the door was opened, Nikei exclaimed, "That was the WORST! I'm going into the goddamn shower!"
Sora laughed and went to the laundry room to undress while the journalist went to the closest shower they had. "Well, at least you managed to get the story you were looking for, right?" she replied, only getting a shout muffled by the walls.
Nikei's shower nearly took an hour, and it was clear from the amount of soap left for Sora that he had washed himself multiple times. "I'm going to go write that article now, this better have been worth the smell. Gah, it's gonna stick to me..." he whined as he went over to his computer.
Sora sighed as she stepped into the bathroom and turned on the shower. One of her few regrets was getting into a relationship with a drama queen, but she hoped that she could teach him how to relax and get him a hobby or two soon.
