The Voids had all become wanted criminals by proxy ever since Mikado Sannoji had joined their team and became their leader. This meant that they were on the move a lot, going to different places in order to look for things that Mikado needed for his plan, as well as hiding out from any form of law enforcement.

They stopped at many different isolated areas to live there briefly, and each 'home' they made often had different qualities to it. As of right now, Nikei's favourite place that they stopped to inhabit was in a bombed-out middle school. It had a lot of cover, some rationed food in cans, and to his surprise, an intact music room.

When he investigated this room, he discovered an undamaged violin in its case and brought it into a practice room just off the main music room. When he was sure that he was alone, Nikei took the violin out of its case and began to tune it.

Long ago, he was forced to take violin lessons for others to see if he had any sort of talent with it, but because it provided him a brief reprieve from his hellish past, he wasn't against the idea of practicing the instrument once in a while.

Once the violin was tuned, he slowly began to play the instrument from memory. The sound of the old strings being played filled the room, enveloping Nikei's focus solely into continuing the melody. The journalist smiled and closed his eyes as he played, enjoying his small break from the cruel reality around him.

He didn't know how long he had been playing for, only that he was a little hungry when he had finished practicing with his violin. He was about to leave the practice room and go bother someone for lunch when he heard the sound of a piano playing. Suspicious and curious, he looked out of the window in the practice room door.

To his shock, it was Mikado playing the piano, and he seemed to be lost in his own little world as well while playing beautiful music with the piano. Nikei didn't want to admit it, but Mikado's skill at playing the piano was very good. But in order to leave to get food, he would have to go past Mikado.

Sucking up his pride, he left the practice room and was instantly spotted by the wizard. "Oh, there you are. I was wondering where you went." Mikado then looked at Nikei's hands, where he was still holding the violin. "So, you were the cause behind that pretty music earlier. Were you tutored?"

"Why the hell would you care?" the journalist replied, putting the instrument back into its case.

"Ah, I was always curious about how to play with instruments. Piano is pretty, but I also enjoy having complete control over instruments and other devices in my hands," the blonde explained.

'And people too,' Nikei almost responded, but he held his tongue just in time. "Yeah, that's cool and all, but you kinda missed the part where I care," he decided to answer instead.

"Aw, don't be harsh!" Mikado whined, and Nikei rolled his eyes at him. He continued in a mopey voice, "Teach me how to play?"

"Hell no!" the journalist exclaimed. "I'd hit you with this if you keep being an asshole, but that would be an insult to the violin!"

"Since when do you care about who you insult or not?" the other teased, his attitude changing in a snap. "Tell you what: how about we play a song together, and I'll stop bothering you about it. How does that sound?"

Nikei began grumbling under his breath as he realized that there was no other way that Mikado would leave him alone. "Fine," he reluctantly agreed, opening up his case and getting the violin out again, "but I'm picking the song."

"That's fine with me, what shall we play?" Mikado instantly replied, his mask conveying his happiness all too clearly.

"Concerto in B Minor Op.35 No.2," Nikei answered, hoping that the wizard wouldn't know what he was talking about.

To his misfortune, Mikado did know the song and began to play the piano opening to the song. Nikei waited for his cue to join in, and he began playing the tune from memory while following the beat that Mikado's piano made.

Despite barely getting along with each other, the music they made while cooperating together was beautiful enough to get the attention of Hajime, Emma, and Iroha, who all peeked into the room from the doorway. They were surprised that those two were getting along, but stayed quiet to hear more.

As for Mikado and Nikei, the two of them continued playing their instruments until the end of the song. Once Nikei put his violin down and Mikado finally sat back, both were met with a round of applause from the doorway.

Mikado teleported away, leaving Nikei to deal with the remaining Voids, who he presumed were thinking that they were getting along. He put the violin down and turned to face them. "Before you say anything, this isn't what you think it is."
