The echo of pounding feet on the dew covered concrete echoed throughout the area. Lewis and Fuller stopped short along the roadway, coming up upon a road sign.

Benford
7 miles

Fuller groaned as he stopped. "Seven miles?" He scanned the area, eyes stopping on an old bar. He took off in that direction with Lewis behind. "What are you doing, man?" Fuller did look behind him. "Gonna get us a car!"

Lewis groaned but looked around. There was nothing else for miles. He shifted back and forth on his feet. "Shit..." He took off after Fuller. "Hey, wait up!"

The boys feet pounded against dirt, slowing down once they hit the pavement. Lewis stopped and looked around the parking lot, watching for people. Fuller ram to each car, grabbing the handles and pulling, to his dimay, each was locked.

He came upon and old red chevy. He grabbed its door handle and let out a breath when the door opened. Lewis ran up and hopped into the passenger seat quickly. Fuller immediately started pulling wires down from the ignition box, scrambling to hot wire the truck.

The wires sparked as he hit them together but to his grief, the truck would not start. Lewis stood besides the window, looking out for anyone. His eyes widened as he saw a large man walk out of the bar. "Shit...shit!" He muttered. Fuller looked up and panicked, trying faster to ignite the ignition.

"Truck troubles?" Lewis looked up, frightened at the man standing in front of the truck. "Uh...no no no, heh, things j-just won't start." The guy gave a small smile. "Ah. I had one of these when I was younger. Try turning the the key all the way in and hold it for a couple seconds. You might have to do it a couple times."

Lewis tried to block his veiw of Fuller as best he could. Fuller furiously tried to get the truck and start it fast. The guy cooked his head. "Here, let me-" The truck roared to life and Fuller gave a large sigh, placing his head on the steering wheel. The guy smiled. "See? Works like a charm."

Lewis sighed and hopped in the passenger side. "Thank you!" The guy gave him a nod. "No problem. You boys drive safe now." They both nodded at the man before Fuller backed up, he spun out of the parking lot, flooring it to Benford.

You laid in the back of the rig on the bed. Your hands and feet were tied together behind your back, almost in a hogtie fashion. Your mouth had been stuffed with a rag. You squirmed and tried to move your arms and legs but nothing came loose, it only felt as though it were getting tighter.

The truck was parked. Rain had begun to fall again. The rain drops that clung to the windshield reflected the outside cab lights. You looked around the cab for anything, you eyes locking on Rusty as you saw him move.

He turned and grabbed the cigarette cartridge from on top of his dash. Pulling a stick out he stuck it between his lips and placed the cartridge back. He turned in his seat, sitting sideways to face you. Your body tensed as you tried to see beyond the shadow that covered most of his face.

"You know, you caused me a lot of trouble here lately." You didn't do anything in response. You just stared into the dark covering his own eyes. "It'll be a real shame when they get to that motel." Your eyes darted around as you started thinking. What the fuck did he mean? You looked attention was brought back.

His hand raised a silver lighter, his thumb flicking the lid open. The flame danced in your eyes and you watched as he brought it closer to his face. His hat dipped down with his head and his other hand raised to guard the flame. You still couldn't see anything.

He took it away and snapped the metal lid shut. You flinched a little and continued to stare at him. He took a long drag and blew out, smoke crawling upwards into the ceiling if the cab. Rusty cooked his head at you. "You sure been quiet since you woke up, huh darlin?"

You looked away from him and back out the windshield, debating whether or not you should even try to say something. "Maybe if you can keep quiet, we can discuss whatever is goin through that pretty little head of yours." You furrowed your browser at him.

"I'm not stupid, woman. I see that look on your face." You frowned and looked away again. Rusty gave a slightly annoyed sigh. "Yknow, you should be taking this chance now to get it out. You might not have it later." His teeth sounded gritted as he got the last part out.

You continued to glare into the empty space but muttered against the cloth and caught Rusty's attention. He leaned closer to you. His rough hand pulled the cloth out from your mouth and down so it hung around your neck.

"What was that?" You paused for a second. "Why?" He leaned back. "Why what?" You frowned a bit. "...why is it a shame...when they get to the motel?" You could see the grin growing on Rusty's face by the second. He gave a chuckle and shook his head.

"Why? Because they'll get there all right, but they ain't gonna find you. Plans changed. You ain't going no where."
