Your heart sunk into the pit of your stomach. You slowly turned back around. You and Fuller locked eyes for a second. You could both see the sudden fear in each other's eyes. Fuller slowly turned back around, sinking into his seat.
"Do you see anything?" Fuller sat back into his seat. "Yeah. Cars and trucks, just be cool." Lewis looked back in his rearview. "What? Did he follow us from the motel?!" Fuller shook his head. "I don't know, I don't know. Look just keep driving-"
"Oh my god...look!" Fuller leaned over and you looked between them. "What?" The gas was almost out. Fuller sat back. "Oh come on, come on, man!" Lewis shook his head. "I know, I know, but it's okay. I saw a sign- gas at Laramie. There'll be a phone there and I'll call Sheriff Ritter." Fuller looked back again but nodded.
"Oh, good. Oh, good." Lewis nodded. "Yeah, we'll be alright." You suddenly squinted at this song ahead and pointed. "Guys..." Lewis looked over as he passed it.
"Laramie 73"
"Oh my god..." Lewis's head fell to the side. Fuller shook his head. "Just stay cool alright, shh shh shh. Just-." Lewis threw his hands up. "Would you stop telling me to be cool?! You're making me...like, crazy." Fuller backed down. "Okay, okay."
"Get the map." Fuller started rummaging. "Okay, okay." He pulled up the large piece of folded paper and started going threw it. Lewis hit the steering wheel. "Fuck! We're not gonna make it to Laramie!" Fuller shook his head. "Take the next exit! I think there's a town there!"
Lewis looked over. "How far is it?" Fuller shook his head, pointing at the map. "I don't know!" Lewis's head shit over. "How far is it?!" Fuller pointed again. "I don't know! My cuticle to my knuckle! 12 miles?!" Lewis's head fell. "We might not even make it 12 miles." Fuller suddenly pointed. "Take this exit! This one right here!"
Lewis swerved the car into the other lane. There was a sudden truck's horn blaring at you from behind. Ypu and Fuller turned to see it as it passed besides you. Lewis served right, down the ramp. "Yes!" You both looked ahead seeing the bright lights of a gas station. "Yes, you're a genius!"
The car pulled in and you all gave a semi-relived sigh. As the car came to a screeching stop, all three of you climbed out of the car. You hung your arms over the roof and let out a large breath. Fuller put a hand on your shoulder with a nervous laugh.
Lewis looked around for a moment. "I'm going in to use the phone and pay. You get gas." Fuller nodded. "Yeah, yeah." Lewis paused as he looked back to the highway. "Let me know if you see anything." You nodded as watched as he went in.
Fuller slowly started to take the pump out of the socket and put it in the car, carefully watching over his shoulder. You keep looking between the highway and the station Lewis went into. You gave a small sigh of relief. It was very short lived.
You paused as you heard a low diesel engine behind you. A large truck was coming down the ramp and pulling into the gas station. You froze and quickly turned back to the station. Fuller's breath picked up as he slighty looked over his shoulder at it.
Lewis still hadn't come out of the station. Fuller watched as a man stepped out of the truck with a large metal stick. He went around the side of the truck, hitting the tires with it. You and Fuller then watched as he started to head towards the gas station.
Fuller slowly but surely took the lump from the car putting it back. He began trying to save down Lewis, who now stood at a phone, just on the other side of the window. You panicked a bit as you watched the man enter the store.
Lewis finally looked up and Fuller started pointing to the door. You could see as Lewis froze and slowly turned, making his way to the counter. Fuller glanced at you, Cleary nervous. You could both see Lewis paying now and Fuller bounced on his feet.
As Lewis turned for the door, the man behind him stepped up to the counter. Fuller sighed but quickly waved you in the car. "Get in, get in!" You climbed in the back seat as Fuller ran around the other side. Lewis had also gotten in.
The car quickly came to life and you looked up and Fuller yelled as the guy ran out of the station, towards you. "Hey!" Lewis stepped on the gas hard, spinning the car around to the exit.
You all three screamed as you were met face first with a large black truck coming straight at you. The horn blared as you swerved out if it's way, speeding back onto the road. The car sped off into the empty road.
It wasn't long before headlights were behind you again. Fuller spun around and cursed. "Shit! Go go go!" Lewis suddenly made a sharp right turn onto a dirt road and immediately floored it.
The truck behind you kept up its speed, following every turn the road had and closing in behind you. It chased close behind for what seemed like a good mile before the car's breaks were hit and you slid forward, into the back of the front seat.
"What the hell man?!" You rubbed your head and looked up. A large iron gate blocked your way. You spun around behind you and saw the headlights closing in. "Fuck!" Fuller and Lewis spun around, watching in terror as the truck came to a stop.
All three of you could hear the door slam shut and you immediately looked out your left window. You slid to the far right side of the car, trying to get as far away as possible. Fuller did the same, as so did Lewis.
Fuller watched as the footsteps got closer and he covered his hand with part of his jacket. "Back off man! I've got a gun!!!" The man bent down to the window. "And I've got a Mastercard." He gave a small smile as he held it up to the window.
Fuller lowered his hand and his face fell in confusion. "What?" Lewis sat up with a heavy sigh. He slowly rolled the window down and the man handed it to him. "Thanks, man. Look we're sorry." Fuller's breaths shook his body as he tried to calm down.
"Yeah, man. You really scared us." The guy laughed. "It wasn't the mustache, was it? Old lady's been telling me to get rid of it." You gave a small laugh. "No, no. It looks great." He gave you a smile before he paused. "Say, you kids alright?" You gave a shakey laugh. Fuller nodded.
"Yeah, fine. Say, what was that...thing you were hitting the truck with?" He gave a sideways glance at Fuller. "You mean the tire thumper? I use it to check air pressure." Fuller gave a couple nods. Lewis nodded. "Hey, thanks again, man. That was really nice of you." He gave y'all a final look over. "No problem, have a nice night."
The man then tapped the frame of the door and stood straight, walking back to his truck. Fuller gave a nervous laugh and let his head fall against the seat. You all gave a sigh and a small laugh. You checked behind you to see his truck backing away.
Throughout the beeps of his truck in reverse, there was another sound. A faint one, but a completely different one than the truck. Fuller paused for a moment too. "Hey do you guys hear that?"
