Mabel's POV
-after school-
I hum as I balance on the wood slab that wasn't exactly stable, "♪hmm hmmm hmm♪"
"What's that song called..?"
"Huh?" I look over at Mason and jump off the slab to walk next to him, "I don't know. It always plays in my head though."
"La da da da da♪" I continue singing along, with no actual lyrics. I laugh as I start skipping so I could be ahead, "you know, Mason," I turn around to look at him, "I've never seen you smile." He glances up from the ground and shrugs, "I don't smile often.."
"Hmm...have you ever sang before?"
"Uhm...o-only to myself..never aloud.."
"Why not?"
"I-I don't know.."
"Hmm..well you can sing in front of me! I won't judge!"
"Mason!!" I hear someone shout, causing me to look behind me.
"Mabel, y-you need to go."
"Why?"
"Just go! I-I'm sure your dad is waiting.."
"Oh, right! Papa! Okay..! I'll see you tomorrow, Mason! Don't forget to sing aloud!" I laugh, waving at him as I run the way towards the daycare.

"Onwards to my father!" I point as papa carries me on his back, "awe! How cute! We'll see you tomorrow, Mr. Sawamura." My dad waves at the ladies at he front desk before walking out the doors, "you need to be quiet indoors, okay, Mabel?"
"Yes, sir, ma'am, sir!" He places me on the ground as dad gets out of the car. I run up and hug dad, "spoiled her today?"
"She wouldn't stop begging."
"If all I had to do was beg to get you, Kōushi, I would've done it a long time ago." Huh?
"Haha, you're funny." They share a small kiss before I get into the car. I look on the floor of the car to see a bag of meat buns.
Mmmm
"Hey, Mabel, there's meat buns on the-" I look up, already having one ready to eat, "looks like she already found them." They both laugh as they buckle up. As we started heading home their hands unintentionally connected as they talked. I tried to focus on the details papa had on his wedding ring.
It had a bright blue crystal in the middle with silver vines wrapping around it. Those vines continued to wrap around the actual ring part. But there was a small word engraved on the side.
F o r e-
Then dad covered it. I looked over the seat to look at dad's hand on the wheel. His jewel was green with the same design as papa's. But the vines didn't grow to hold the jewel, instead it was small thorn looking things that held it on. And it was hard to read what was engraved on his.
I don't get why people get grosses out when I say I have two dads. They're happy..and that's all that matters, right?

"Don't forget that Sakura's will pick you up after school, okay?" Papa says, handing me my lunch, "oh yeah! Woohoo!" I grab my bag, "I'll see you guys later! I'm going to walk with Mason! I love you! Bye!" I run out the house and skip down the street. I turn the corner to see Mason walking with some big headphones on.
"Hey, Mason!" I run up to him and he takes off his headphone, waving at me, "hey, Mae." I tilt my head at the nickname. No one's ever called me a nickname besides for my dads. I shrug it off and skip next to him, "whatcha' listening to?"
"Uhm..a song I used to listen to with some friends when I lived in America.." My eyes widen in surprise and excitement, "you've lived in America!?"
"Uhm..yeah..heh.." he chuckles lightly, turning away so I wouldn't see his smile. I pout but he takes off his headphones, handing them to me, "do you want to listen to it..?" He asks shyly, I smile and grab the headphones, putting them on.
He was playing this upbeat song but it had rather sad lyrics.
We start walking again and I relax my shoulder, humming along to the melody once I got used of it. He let me listen to the song up until it was over. I take off the headphones, "I like it a lot." I smile at him, placing them sloppily back on his head. He fixes his hair and smirks at me, "you have no care in the world, do you?" I shake my head, "why should I? If you like it, that means you like it. It makes you a valid person!"
"Who raised you to be so nice..?"
"Papa! I have a feeling if it was just me and dad..I would be kind of sad."
"You love your parents..don't you?" I nod, smiling, "yep! They take care of me! How could I not love them? They love me."
"Uhm..Mabel? Can I..stay over this weekend? I want to get away from home." I glance over at him and tilt my head, "hmm...I'm going to have to ask my dads because Munnsun's staying over. But I'm sure they'll say yes! I'll ask tonight!"
"Okay...thanks.." we walk on school grounds, "I'll see you in class, I have to do something.." I nod, "oh, okay." As he left, I finally realized...
Mason's my only friend.

"I'll see you tomorrow, Mae. Don't forget to ask."
"I won't! I'll see you tomorrow!" I get in the backseat of Sakura's car and buckle up, "Hey, Mabel!"
"Hi, Sakura!"
