Jackson's P.O.V: (flashback)
I was so excited to get to see my new friends today. Mom and dad are relieved I've made friends too. Mom wouldn't stop nagging me about getting myself out there and dad would say in his deep, husky voice "Son. Our family is very important in this town so it is crucial that you make a good impression. The impact that you make will not only affect you but also the whole family so make sure you make good choices." He is always right. Our family is kinda like a dollhouse. We always have to be dressed perfectly when we leave the house, our home itself is always picture perfect, and the children have to have perfect grades except Charlie. Charlie is 19 and out of school. My father owns a bank so we're very rich. We have a big house and I think it's haunted especially at night but then again, I am a 10 year old so we have our big imaginations.
"You ready?" Danny says grabbing her jacket from the hook. Danny is my big sister. She's definitely not at the top of my fathers "proud list". In fact, if he did have such a list, she probably wouldn't be on it at all. Don't get me wrong she's not a bad kid or anything like that, but my parents are convinced there's something wrong with her. Her and I have always been very close though and she has a soft spot for me. "Ready!" I say with the biggest smile I could muster. Mom told Danny to walk with me on her way to wherever she's going but said I could walk back on my own. Danny and I are close but we're not close enough to where she feels comfortable sharing her whereabouts all the time with me. My parents think there's something wrong with her because she can be a little weird sometimes. Not very often in public though so she always manages to make a good impression for the family. But she stays in her room a lot and it seems like every time someone walks in on her she's dancing with no music and acts as if she's in a trance, or she's talking to herself. Which wouldn't be so bad except for the fact that she has full conversations with nobody that end up turning into full on arguments. She's also a sleepwalker, a creepy on in fact. Once she walked into my room and stared at my before lifting her fist directly above her head and cocking her head to the side as if to indicate that she was hanging herself. I complain about it to my other family members all the time and my mom finally got a lock put on my door. I still hear her rattle the knob at night though. Charlie never catches her doing it, such a deep sleeper. "We're here." She says and I immediately try to run down the path in the woods to the place I'm supposed to meet my friends, but I'm pulled back by my shirt. I turn and look at my sister confused. "Whattttt?" I groan impatiently. "Hey don't be like that." she says with her warm soft smile that always makes me feel like it's summertime. She starts fixing my collar and then ruffles my hair. "Remember to be home by 5:30 for dinner. If you're late mom is gonna throw a fit, alright?" She says staring down at me holding my shoulder so I don't run away again. She's really strong but doesn't look it and she's faster than anyone I know so if I did want to run to get to my friends she'd catch me before I'd even lift a leg. "Alright I will!" I say looking quickly from her to the woods repeatedly. "Alright you can go." She says rolling her eyes and releasing my shoulder. As I sprint into the woods I hear her yell "have fun and be careful!" And I wave without even turning around, too excited to look back.
I see my friends surrounding a small creek, poking at something with a stick. My friends are James Blakely, Jonathan Tate, Chris Hemp, and most popular of all of them, Oliver Grayson. They are the type of kids who wear khakis and polos and are in the chess club at school. Of course we're only in 5th grade so it's really just a lunchtime activity that they call a club. Oliver looks up and me and his eyes light up. "Jackson! It's about time, what took you so long?" He says causing the others to look up at me. "Sorryyyy my sister wanted to make sure I knew when to be home." I say rolling my eyes. "Ah, I've been there." Jonathan says with a chuckle. "Well anyway you got here just in time to see this weird snake!" Oliver says pointing at a spot on the ground and I run over intrigued.
