“Goshiki.” Tendou called the younger boy who was walking in with a familiar grey-haired girl. Akari turned around to complain to Tendou for not calling her.  “Boo, I’m here too!” she yelled making Tendou laugh. She had gotten closer to the captain’s best friend after spending time with him after school and being able to have a two-way conversation. Ushijima slightly scrunched his face at the new pet name for Tendou, he didn’t understand Akari.

She turned to look at Ushijima who looked back at her with a blank stare. “Ushijima-san.” She shouted loudly blowing him a kiss before skipping over to her friends with a grin. Her friends laughed at her antics with the famous stoic captain of the volleyball team, while others around looked at her like she was crazy for calling the boy who seemed to lack emotion. Tendou let out a chuckle seeing that the girl had managed to make the unbothered captain sigh within a few days.

After long hours of learning pointless knowledge which wouldn’t be useful in everyday life, Akari ran to the gym having to tell Goshiki something. She called out to the boy stopping him from the practice he was having with Shirabu and whispered something in his ear. Whatever she had said made the younger one annoyed making him pinch Akari’s waist and she let out a yelp.

“Goshiki you should not treat a girl like that.” Ushijima lectured the younger boy while Akari rubbed her waist nodding her head in agreement to whatever he was saying. “Tell him baby.” She huffed with her head up making her way close to Ushijima who merely ignored her new nickname and walked towards the coach who had just called him.

Ushijima was now teaching Goshiki different types of spikes on the other side of the gym far away from the coach who didn’t have the energy to deal with Akari today.  Akari did some of her work getting a lot more than others being in advanced classes. She looked up every so often to see Ushijima jump in the air and harshly slam the ball down with large veiny hands. Landing in a similar manner, his hair only lifting slightly since they clung to his forehead with sweat.

She watched Ushijima demonstrate to Goshiki something she didn’t understand and sighed. Ushijima actually spoke to Goshiki unlike with her and well she wasn’t a sporty person, so she needed to capture his attention a different way. The two took a break and she ran to Ushijima handing him a towel and water bottle ignoring Goshiki complain how she wouldn’t help him ever. “Your lying, I help you clean your room all the time!” Akari shouted at Goshiki who couldn’t deny the truth.

She turned back to face Ushijima with a sly smile and he knew to expect something. ” Baby are you a volleyball? Because I will always dive for you.” She winked followed by her usual cheerful laugh. “I am a human not a volleyball.” He stated making the girl stop laughing and now kick her feet against the floor in annoyance. “I’m flirting with you gosh.” She whined dramatically flailing her legs about like a child as she held onto the edge of the bench so she wouldn’t fall off it.

“Matsumoto-san.” Ushijima called out making the girl stop her tantrum looking up at him with hope, her orbs practically twinkling back at his olive-coloured ones. She made a slight face of disgust at the way he formally called her by her family name rather than her first name which most people called her by. Nevertheless, she shrugged it off seeing as though Ushijima was starting a conversation with her.

“You shouldn’t flirt like you did yesterday, it is very foul. Other men may take advantage of it.” He told her off and Akari could only blink as a response, this was the most he had said to her ever. Her lips formed a small ‘o’ as she made heart eyes to the buff man who was clearly more than looks. She nodded understandingly and Ushijima thought she was going to maintain this seriousness. “I mean I have you to look after me don’t I.” she winked jumping out her seat with slightly flushed cheeks and running to Tendou who matched her loud personality well.
