The following day Akari had not been there to greet Ushijima. His morning felt strange, but he pushed it aside knowing he would see her later during practice. Akari didn’t come to practice. He had heard the conversation between Goshiki and Tendou, Akari didn’t feel like coming to practice.

Just like that another few weeks passed and Akari had not made an appearance. She would go to school later and wait for Goshiki in the library not really having the energy to flirt with Ushijima. Most of the time she would be at Goshiki’s house since her dad would be at home more; she knew was being dramatic but she was disappointed her dad had lied to her.

If she happened to see any of the volleyball team, she would give them a small smile and continued to talk to her own friends. Once, Tendou and Ushijima saw Akari stand by the vending machine getting a drink. “Akari!” the red head called out dragging Ushijima with him. She smiled giving them both a small wave walking off with her friends not giving them a chance to ask why she no longer came to practice.

Ushijima frowned; as much as he hated to admit it he somewhat missed Akari’s presence. Practice was no longer loud and though he liked peace and quiet he had missed Akari. He missed how she would let out a giggle every time she would flirt with him. Though he didn’t really react to them he still missed her cheesy lines. The thought of not having Akari pester him gave some sort of twisting chest pain and he had no idea what to do.

Later that evening as Ushijima ate his fruit Tendou mentioned how he missed Akari and the twisting chest pain was back. “Tendou, lately I have been experiencing chest pain. It hurts and it feels like there is a knot of some sort twisting inside. Do you think I should make an appointment with my doctor?” Ushijima asked rather worried about his health. “I think its pain caused by sadness. Do you want to talk about it Wakatoshi?” he asked concerened about his friend. The younger shook his head losing himself in his thoughts wanting to figure it out himself.

The following day the team had morning practice, they worked in small groups. To others outside it may have been loud, feet squeaking against the floor the sound of balls being smacked around but to the team it was rather quiet. “Goshiki! Your forgot your lunch.” Akari yelled at the child for being so careless making her first appearance in a few weeks. She noticed the team stare at her with surprise and she let out a nervous laugh. “Long time no see.” She attempted to laugh it off only to have Tendou tackle her into a hug.

Tendou managed to persuade her to come back to practice and Ushijima smiled to himself. He was slightly upset that she wasn’t coming for his sake but he pushed it aside just happy she was coming back. Akari fulfilled her promise and came to practice after school and sat at the bench cheering for both teams. During sets Ushijima expected Akari to come and flirt with him or at least watch him wipe away his sweat but she did neither of those things. Akari noticed his intense stare his eyebrows furrowed like he was trying to figure something out so she gave him at toothy grin this made him furrow his eyebrows further.

Practice ended and Akari told Goshiki she would wait in the gym. Ushijima waited for the others to leave before sitting beside her. “Why did you not say cheesy lines to me today?” he asked sounding somewhat disappointed making Akari laugh. “I’m sorry, does the miracle boy miss me?” she teased and Ushijima nodded. “I’m glad your okay, I just wanted to make sure you are happy again. My job is here is done.” He stated getting up in the process seeing as though she was back to her cheerful, teasing self.

“No no I’m still sad.” Akari cried faking a frown clinging onto his arm so he couldn’t run away. “Is there something I can do to help you.” He asked the younger girl who tapped her chin. “Take me out on a date this weekend.” She smirked emphasising the word ‘Date.’ “Okay, I shall pick you up at 2pm.” He told her before walking away to get changed making Akari gasp in surprise.
