Beatrice's POV

I was done with my chores, so I'll be able to take care of my horse, Harlow. He's stubborn and grumpy, but he's a good horse and surprisingly he only obeys me.

- Hi boy, how are you today? I said quietly, petting him before giving him an apple.

I brush him and put the saddle on him.

- Are you going for a walk?

I turn around and see my father.

- Hi dad. Yeah, I wantedto take him for a walk around the ranch.

- I had planned to go to town, do you want to come? You can show me how much progress you've made.

- Really? I said smiling.

- Yeah, let's go.

He mounted his horse and I followed him.

- Why do you have to go to town? I ask him.

- Your mother asked me to go get something from the post office.

- And what is it?

- No idea. She told me it was a surprise and it came from New York.

- Wow, I wonder what this is.

- Is everything going well with your horse? He asks me.

- Yep! Harlow is a good horse!

- Uncle came to complain the other day, he said your horse bit him.

- For once something happens to him! I said laughing.

Dad also laughed and we arrived in town near the post office.

- Wait for me here, it won't be long. He said as he got off his horse.

- Okay.

I got down from Harlow and pet him.

- Good horse. Said a man looking at me.

- Hum, thank you sir.

I looked at him, he is dressed in a suit and a top hat.

- It is unusual to see a young girl riding like a man and also dressing like one of them.

I frown and replied:

- I dress as I want and if I want to ride like a man I would! No one will force me to change.

The man smiled at me and replied:

- Yes I know. You are like your father at this level.

- Huh? My father? You know him?

- Yes I know him. I also know your mother, John, Abigail and everyone around you. You may consider yourself lucky to have so many people who love you. But sooner or later, the truth will eventually show itself. And at that moment, a choice will have to be made.

- What are you talking about?  And what do you want from me? I said nervously.

- Nothing. All I can say is that luck always changes eventually. Consider yourself lucky today to have met me Beatrice Morgan.

He moved away from me, I felt nervous, even worried. Who was this man? Why do I feel like I'm drained of my energy?

- Okay, we can go home Beatrice. Beatrice?

I was sitting on the steps when dad walked out of the post office. I didn't feel well.

- Are you ok? He asked me worriedly putting a hand on my back.
