You have been cordially invited to the wedding of
Leo Collins and Penny Russo
The fifteenth of December, two thousand and eighteen
at the St. Andrews Catholic Church in Bunbury, W.A.
at 2:30 in the afternoon
"Shit," Dianne murmured under her breath, "Shit, fuck, damn it, fucking shit."
"Watch your mouth, Buswell!" a bored, Welsh accent echoed through the small cozy flat in Central London, causing Dianne to finally tear her eyes away from the flowery wedding invitation she had clutched in her slightly trembling hand.
"I'm fucking doomed," Dianne replied, holding up the offensive card and waving it toward her roommate, Amy, who was staring at the redhead with one single, skeptical eyebrow raised.
"You knew it was coming," Amy rolled her eyes, a hint of a smile on her lips as she watched her Aussie friend and roommate have a complete mental breakdown. Which, to be fair, had been happening quite frequently these days.
"Yes, but it's HERE," Dianne stood up and stalked toward the small kitchen, the invitation still dangling between her fingers, before she chucked it toward the small table Amy was seated at, slowly sipping her coffee and scrolling through the news on her iPad. "And it...it smells. Like flowers. Like the fucking flowers on the paper it's printed on. Leave it to Penny to make her invitations fucking perfect too."
"Dianne!" Amy shouted, biting back a laugh, "Chill."
"I can't chill, Amy," the redhead moaned, flopping down on the chair next to her. "My perfect cousin is getting married to the perfect man, who is best friends with my ex. The very ex who broke my heart, and the very heartbreak that made me move across the world two years ago."
Amy bit her lip to hold back another giggle, "Right, so it wasn't your amazing dance skills and Giovanni asking you to join his tour? It was all because of Will--"
"Shh!" Dianne glared at the brunette. "We do not speak his name."
"Well, you're gonna have to," Amy snorted, "Because he's Leo's best man, isn't he? And you're Penny's maid of honor?"
Dianne let out a groan as she dropped her head onto her crossed arms, resting on the table, "Yes."
"Are you even that close to Penny?" Amy asked, reaching out to gently pull the invitation out of Dianne's hand. "I feel like you don't talk about her much."
Sighing, Dianne shook her head, "No, we're not that close. And she's five years younger than me. But we're the only two girls in our twenties on the Russo side...and she doesn't have a lot of friends..."
"Oh, one of THOSE girls," Amy muttered, bringing the invitation up to her nose to catch a whiff.
"She's not that bad, just a bit self-centered, you know? Mum always wanted me to try and help her...guide her, into being a 'good girl'."
Amy snorted again.
"What?" Dianne narrowed her eyes.
"YOU were the good girl?"
Dianne smirked and reached out to shove her friend and fellow dancer lightly on the shoulder, "Shut up, Ames. I'll have you know, I was very well behaved...when I wasn't going to parties and skipping school."
Amy raised her eyebrows.
"Anyway, it didn't really work. With Penny I mean. Being that much younger than me, she didn't need me to guide her to be perfect, she already was. She's exactly how you'd envision a perfect person to be. Good hair, clear skin, a high paying job, a fiancee before the age of 30. Although I guess she has me to thank for her wedding, since I did technically introduce her to Leo, since he was best friends with Will...but, I never thought she'd make me her Maid of Honor. I mean truly...what was she thinking? I live on the other side of the bloody world, don't I?"
