"Ash?" I call out for my husband after being startled awake by an unknown noise.

I sit up in bed and scan the room to notice he is missing.

"Ashley? " I call out again, in a whisper this time as my eyes land on the white speaker beside my bed. I pick up the monitor and I quickly relax, hearing my husband whispering from the device.

" shh. It's okay, angel. Daddy's here " I smile at the sound and slowly stand, lifting his shirt from the floor. As I slip it over my head, I step into the hallway, quietly tip-toeing my way to our daughter's room.

"That's my girl, drink your bottle" he softly encourages as I lean my shoulder on the door frame. He was gone for a few months, only returning two weeks ago, and it's so amazing having him back. Ever since his return home, he is practically attached to the tiny girl. He is such a great father, despite how unsure he was when I first got pregnant.

And might I say, he looks so good holding that bundle of pink in his arms.

I have almost fallen back to sleep against the wall, just listening to his smooth voice as he sings her to sleep. Only when his moves from the rocking chair, causing it to creak slightly, do I straighten from my position and silently walk up behind him. As he is bent over the wooden crib, I lean over his back, wrapping my arms around his waist.

" did I wake you? " he whispers to me, careful to not wake the girl from her slumber. He turns around, engulfing me in his strong arms. I hum as a response to his question, before I hear the same noise as before. We both turn toward the crib where the sound came from. My heart skips a beat as a small, bright light illuminates under the crib. I smile at the sight before me.

Ashley's face matches mine as he bends down to floor, handing me the light up teddy bear.

"I didn't even notice he was down there" he whispers, lifting our two year old son from underneath his sister's bed.

" he started that after you left." I inform him, as he places the toddler in his bed, across the room from our baby.

" he said he wanted to protect her" I add, pulling the covers over my son. Ash places a kiss on his forehead.

" sleep tight, little man. Daddy's back now"
