"Don't do it, dad!" I scream.
"Baby, I have to." He says, but something feels fake in his voice.
"I thought I told you to shut the hell up!" Aeron kicks me in the head again. Then everything fades. I blink several times until the world stops spinning. I hear words, but I can't make them out. All I see when I'm able, is Aeron on the ground near me. His blood is oozing out of out his forehead, his eyes have a blank look on them. I scream and crawl away as much as I can before everything goes black.
"Semira, omigod." I hear Stephanie's voice when I open my eyes. "I thought you had died."
"I thought you died!" I laugh as much as I can.
"Your dad told me...everything." She smiles and pulls my hair out of my eyes. "I'm so sorry if you felt like you couldn't tell me. I know I was a little pushy earlier, I-I just had no idea."
"Ya..." I smile. "Where is everybody? What happened?"
"Well...your dad is flying to the Himalayas to set up a new base, a good base, where your kind can prosper instead of die." She says. I realize how much I didn't tell her, and how much she now knows, and it makes me feel closer to her, I'm so grateful she is my best friend. "Your dad got his soldier's ready and attacked Aeron and Frederick, unfortunately they were unable to catch Cameron."
"Oh Stephanie, I'm so sorry about him. I just didn't know how to tell you he was a grim reaper, that's not exactly something you can just blurt out." I apologize.
"Wait...he's a what?"
"Oh no." I laugh.
"Oh god..." She rolls her eyes.
"Thanks for being here still. Thanks for not running away." I grab her hand.
"No problem." She smiles back at me. She squeezes my hand. "But I'll be happy to tell you, I found a new guy."
"That's so great, Steph! I knew you'd find someone..."
"Yeah, I guess all that bitching to the love gods finally got me somewhere. We have a date...tonight." She looks at her watch. "Oh no, and I'm so gonna be late!"
"Go." I say.
"Are you sure?!" She looks frantic.
"Duh!" I shoo her away with my hand and she gives me a big hug, then grabs her coat and leaves. I look around my room where it seems I have been placed.
I hear a knocking at my door and so I get up and open it.
"Hi baby." She smiles at me.
"Hey." I sigh.
"How are you feeling?"
"Fine...completely fine, actually." I say realizing my cravings are no longer nagging me.
"I fed you." She smiles. "I have a jar of souls just for emergencies." She winks at me. "Your father had it all planned out the entire time, he just never told you, he was going to fight back. After all it was all of our soldiers against the three of them..." She laughs and I laugh too. It feel light and nice. I haven't laughed in a while.
"I love you mom." I say. She kisses my forehead. I feel perfectly fine. Like I could float away.
"You know... we do need a head of the new station in the Himalayas." She says to me.
"Me?" I ask in disbelief. "You want me?"
"You figured almost exactly what was going on when you were poisoned, and if you had had a little more time, you would have figured everything out all by yourself. That sounds to me like good leader material."
"I would be honored." I smile and everything is alright for once in a whole week! And you know what? It was the best week of my life.
