Chapter 9: Who's the Perv Now?
_________________________________"You're going to leave fingerprints, Bun Head!" Seiya gave one of her pigtails a tug.
"Oops!" Usagi swiftly withdrew her bare hands from the glass storefront of a charming bakery nestled downtown. She was drooling over the assortment of delectable cakes showcased behind the window. Among the eye-catching treats, a two-tiered chocolate cake with raspberries, a red velvet creation crowned with cream frosting, and a pineapple upside-down masterpiece held her attention.
"Go on in and make your choice," Seiya encouraged. "I've got a quick errand to run while we're in this area."
"You sure?"
"Yeah, I won't be long. Choose something delicious. I'm counting on you."
Usagi's eyes lit up. "Roger that." She gave Seiya a little wave and watched her disappear into the crowd, her ponytail swinging in cadence with her steps. Usagi watched her go until she lost sight of her completely. Disliking the feeling of being alone, she hurried into the bakery.
A bell chimed as she entered, drawing the attention of the girl behind the counter. "Hello, what can I do for you?"

Seiya was waiting outside when she exited. It was dark, the glow of the city accentuating the Christmas wreaths gracing each street lamp.
"Sorry it took so long," Usagi apologized. She emerged from the bakery clutching a plastic bag. "I couldn't make up my mind!"
"It's alright. I just got here."
"Where'd you go anyway?"
Seiya winked. "It's a secret."
Usagi huffed.
"What'd you get?" Seiya attempted to peer into the bag, catching a glimpse of a solid cake box within.
"It's a surprise!" Usagi swung it away and stuck out her tongue.
"Aw, aren't we going to eat it when we get home?"
"Of course we are."
"And you still won't tell me?"
"Not unless you tell me what you did while I was getting our cake."
Seiya stuffed her hands in her pocket as they walked. "I bought you a Christmas present."
Usagi raised her eyebrows. Seiya wasn't holding a bag. "Really?" she asked skeptically.
"Yeah. I noticed it's a tradition for this holiday."
"But... I didn't get you anything!"
"I don't want anything."
"That's not how Christmas works!"
Seiya guided Usagi away from a slushy puddle. "You took me to an ice musical and bought me a cake. Besides, just being around you is the best gift I could ask for."
Usagi pulled her scarf up to her nose. "You always have a way with words, huh?" she muttered.
"Gotta keep up appearances, it's part of my image."
Chibi-Usa whined and squirmed in the carrier Usagi wore.
"We're almost to the station, Chibi-Usa. Make it just a little longer and I'll get your bottle."
