In a small apartment in New York City, a woman with long black hair and bangs cut above her eyebrows was sat curled up on a couch. She wore grey sweatpants, a black tank top, and a thin, dark grey hoodie with white accents. A cat sat comfortably on her lap and a remote was in her hand, pointed to at the tv as she flicked through channels.

"What do you think Rocky?" She asked the cat, running a hand through the felines soft and long fur. The cat looked up at her, purring but gave no notion of response. The woman smiled at the cat softly before the ring of her phone interrupted the relatively silent apartment.

"Who's calling me now?" The woman whined and picked up her phone. "Hello?" She asked as she answered the phone.

"Kat!" A women's relieved voice flitted through the phone. The black-haired woman quickly sat up, the cat jumping off her lap.

"Mum!" She exclaimed. "Hey! We haven't talked in a while, how are you?" She asked making the woman on the phone laugh.

"I'm alright sweetheart, I appreciate you asking." You could hear the smile in the older women's voice. Kat gave a small, soft smile, glad to hear that after how hard the past few months were.

"I'm glad. So, to what pleasure do I have for this call?" Kat asked making the woman on the other end let out a sigh.

"I need you to come home." She said making the younger girl blink in shock. "Just for a little bit."

"W-wha-what for?" The younger one asked, shock still clear on her face and in her voice.

"Someone broke in last week. They didn't take anything and no one was home." Her mother said making Kat furrow her brows.

"That doesn't make sense though." She said in confusion, why break into a house and not take anything?

"I know." Her mother said. "We think it's someone looking for a program your dad made." She explained making her daughter nod.

"Okay, so, what does this have to do with me?"

"The military found something in Zurich, they think it's the program so I have to leave for a few days to go get it." She said making Kat let out a hum.

"So, you want me to come down and help take care of my siblings." She concluded.

"Not exactly."

"What do you mean?"

"I mean," Her mother sighed. "The military is sending someone over to protect the house and your siblings while I'm gone. I want you to come down and help him."

"In other words, you want to make sure they don't drive him insane," Kat said with a small chuckle. Her mother laughed at her little joke.

"Yes." She said with a chuckle.

"Alright, I'll come home. When do you need me there?" Kat said, getting up and going to the notepad and pen on her kitchen island.

"He's gonna be here in 3 days." Her mother said, clearly happy that her daughter was coming home for a while. "Oh, could you maybe come sooner though? I haven't seen you in a few months that I just-" Her mother rambled, her daughter chuckling at her mum's nervous nature.

"Sure," She laughed. "It'll be nice seeing everyone again."

"I can't wait to see you again, sweetheart." Her mother said making the black-haired girl smile.

"I'll be there before you know it!" Kat said. "I gotta go now, but I'll call you before I leave."

"Alright, goodnight sweetie! I love you!" Her mother said and a big smile came across the girl's face.
