Goodbye for Now

"Bowie, psst, Bowie!"

Bowie looks around with a raised eyebrow, he was on patrol and now someone is calling his name.

"Over here!"

Bowie looks towards an alleyway and spots Toby, his boyfriend, even though he's barley noticable wearing a cloak that covers his ODM gear and most of his face.

Bowie looks at him with a raised eyebrow before walking over to him. "What's with the cloak?"

Toby yanks him further into the alley before pushing his hood down. "It's to conceal my identity and ODM gear."

"Why?"

Toby sighs. "Because, I'm hiding, with the scouts."

"What? From who?" Bowie looks at the shorter man, confused.

"There's been a hold put on scout operations, mp's are hunting us down and throwing us in prison."

Bowie raises his eyebrows. "I haven't been told anything of this."

"You probably will be soon then, the government wants Eren and Historia."

"Why don't you just give them to the government then?"

"Because, there's something fishy going on. There's no good reason Historia should have had to hide her identity, especially enlisting in the military unless the government was involved somehow."

"Maybe she just came from a bad family."

"Bowie, there's something going on. Commander Erwin is being watched like a hawk"

"Wait really? Because you aren't handing over a couple kids?"

"Yes really, my mom is putting me under Levi's command until further notice, we're going into hiding."

"Wait, what about us?"

"I don't know Bowie, I love you, with everything in my body. But I love the scouts too, it gives me a purpose. Pastor Nick was murdered, by interior police. This is no accident, the government knows something we don't. And the scouts are going to figure it out."

"Why can't you just leave it alone? The government has kept us alive for a century."

"And now they're trying to take Eren. The only person who can continue to keep humanity alive. If we don't retake wall Maria, humanity is fucked. And everyone knows that."

"...So where are you going to go?"

"I can't tell you that."

"Why not? I'm your boyfriend."

"Because your higher ups know we have a relationship, it's not exactly a secret. I'm sure they're going to question you, maybe even go as far as torture. A lot of people break under pain."

"I'm not going to tell them baby."

"I know, but I don't know at the same time, I don't work with you Bowie. I don't know how you are under pressure or pain in the work field. I can't risk it. This is putting mine and my comrades freedom on the line even being here. But I had to see you again before I can't."

Bowie just stares at him, a little upset his own boyfriend doesn't trust him, but more upset because they're being separated because of the regiment he joined.

"I love you Bowie, I really do. But I put my heart and soul into what I've done in the scouts, if we hand over Eren and Historia there's no reason the scouts need to continue working. Without Eren, we don't have a chance at surviving, Reiner and Bertholdt will take wall Rose. And as soon as that happens we're toast."

Bowie pulls the shorter man into a tight hug. "I love you too baby."

Toby hugs him tightly, the two had been closer than Toby has been with anyone in his life over the past year. Now neither of them knew if they'd ever see the other again.

Toby buries his face in Bowie's chest, trying to memorize how it feels to be in his arms, what he smells like, everything he had gotten so used to, that now he wouldn't be able to have.

Bowie rubs his back and holds him close for minute after minute, just sitting in silence with the brunette in his arms. After a few minutes he tilts Toby's head up and leans down to kiss him passionately.

Toby immediately melts into the kiss, never wanting to leave his boyfriend's arms. But nevertheless, his time is running out and he's going to have to meeting with Levi and his squad.

Bowie cups the younger man's face and kisses him until they're out of breath which only then do they part their lips.

"I love you so much." Toby says looks up at his boyfriend.

"I love you more than anything baby." Bowie replies hugging him again. "And I'm going to miss you just as much.'

Toby melts into his arms and holds back tears. "I-i'm going to miss you so much."

For a scout Toby is classed as clumsy, unreliable, and emotional. The only thing most people think he's good for is research. But Bowie brings out other parts of him.

Around Bowie, Toby feels so comfortable, he's able to be himself without judgement from other people. At heart Toby's just a big dork who loves science.

Bowie sees that part of him, the part that he fell so hard for. The big dork he sleeps next to at night, rambling on and on about research they had accomplished that day, even though Bowie himself isn't that into science and most certainly is not the biggest supporter of Eren, he loves listening to Toby talk about his passions.

Toby loves the fact that Bowie let's him ramble and just supports him. He understands that it's not Bowie's thing, but he let's Bowie ramble to him when he wants to do Toby does the same. Bowie is his big teddy bear, a big ol cuddly teddy bear on the inside a big contrast to how uptight he is in public and on duty.

They're so different. Yet they fit together so well.

"I-i should get going..." Toby whispers even if he doesn't want to.

"Okay, I'll see you soon. I'm sure of it." Bowie says as Toby hesitantly pulls away from his arms.

"I love you."

"I love you too baby."

Toby smiles sadly and looks down the alley.

"Let's go Toby." Mikasa states, standing at the enterance of the alleyway.

Toby nods and pulls his hood over his head before leaving with the taller woman. Down the road and out of Bowie's sight.

I don't write feels enough. This felt weird.
