The Day To Forget

I walk down the same street at the same time like I always do. My black leather school shoes squeaking with every step as my feet hit the paved path. I began to run.

Why do I feel like this?

Why me? Why did this have to happen to me?

Two days ago something tragic happened and who did it leave most effected, well me of course.

My twin sister Ginger and I grew up together, we do everything together just like best friends. Although we are twins we are nothing alike Ginger has short, curly, black hair, where as I have long, silky, brown hair. Anyone who doesn’t know us would never think we are related. One day when we were walking home from school we were shoving each other around for fun, when I pushed her a little too hard when all of a sudden a car came speeding up the road.

 Why doesn’t it brake?

Ginger screamed “Christina” and that was her final word.

I phoned our parents still in shock and tears from what had just happened. Lights flashing, sirens wailing the ambulance speed down the busy highway, there were a lot of cars on the road that day but not one stopped, not one. Despite the ambulances best attempts Ginger died on the way to hospital. That was it she was gone. What have I done?

My parents and I drove home in almost silence with the only sound being our sniffles and cries. We had lost an important member of our family today all because of me. When we got home I decided I would just go to my room and hide from all the questions but that wasn’t possible. My parents were too upset, mad and desperate for answers, the answers that only I knew. They yelled through sobs “What on earth happened today?”  My answer was simple and a lie to protect myself “We were walking home just chatting when suddenly Ginger tripped on the curve and as I ran to help her up a bright red car came speeding down the road and then it happened...”

I wasn’t sure if they will believe my story forever but it sure stopped there questioning for now.
