Chapter 4- Alone

Jason's POV

The machine next to Piper's bed started beeping rapidly and I called for Will to come in. Piper wasn't opening her eyes or moving or anything, she just laid there, as usual. It had been a week since the quest, she wasn't getting any better though. The doctors were doing all they could to try to remove the poison stuff from her body but nothing was working. Her bones were starting to heal, but she had broken almost all her bones in her body. She was smashed against a wall! I didn't even know how she survived. All I would do was sit beside her bed, protecting her, making sure she stayed alive. I couldn't live without Piper, she's my everything. I love her.

Will ran in and started to adjust something with the machines, the beeping slowed to the regular sound. He looked over at me and said, "It was nothing, just the machine acting up." He double checked to make sure it was and then I nodded and he walked off.

I grabbed Piper's hand, it was still warm. I knew she was still alive, but I didn't know if she could hear me or not. I wish she could. I wish she would just open her eyes and sit up and be all better, but I knew better than that. She might not even wake up, she might stay like this forever, or worse, she'll die.

"Piper, if you can hear me, I want to let you know that I love you. I love you." She didn't respond or even move. I started to get angry with myself.

This is all my fault! If I didn't bring her along on the quest then she would still be good old Piper! Its all my fault! I got up and stormed out the door. I was so mad at myself.

This was the first day I had gone outside for about a week. The sky was a bright blue and the sun was shining, high in the sky. Some campers looked over at me, surprised. I saw Annabeth and Percy coming up from the cabins, they were coming at the usual time to visit Piper. I couldn't face anyone right now so I ran in the other direction. I ran towards the forest and didn't stop for anything. Trees clawed against my skin and I almost tripped several times. I ran until I couldn't run anymore.

I looked up and saw a wooden tree house. I remembered that Piper and I had gotten Leo to build it for us so we could have time alone together. But we rarely ever used it before we went on the quest. I climbed up and saw pictures of Piper and I. I felt like crying but couldn't. I sat there for about 10 minutes. Then got up and left.

I have to stay strong. She'd want me to. I have to stay strong, for Piper.

Soon I got back to the infirmary and walked to the bed where Piper lay. Percy and Annabeth weren't there so I took my usual place next to Piper. She still looked the same as she did when I left. Her brown choppy hair had the usual braids in it. She had shallow breaths that always made me fear that they would suddenly stop and she would be gone, forever. I would do anything for Piper, anything...
