Miyuki peeks above the borrowed laptop -courtesy of Aoi- screen to examine the bustling environment, meanwhile, she was vigorously emailing resumés. Within the past couple of weeks, Miyuki successfully got called up for interviews even then, no second consultants. Sighing once again, the weary female laid her dark head atop her folded arms.
"But why out of all the places, Aoi has to ask me to sit here?" Miyuki mumbled, emitting a strangled sound.
Must be that tall, handsome chef manning the kitchen, she snorted. However, there were two of them; one had short-spiked hair and bad tempered and the other, a lady's man.
The restaurant was rushing with customers, she shut her eyes to tune in to the activities of feet shuffling; cutleries clinking at the background. Numerous vocals carry over the rafter. Miyuki was oblivious of another person sliding into the empty seat opposite hers. Because of the soothing tones, she was snoozing.
Across the table, Shinpachi timidly positions the tray stacking up the handwritten letters aside and peering over occasionally. Miyuki and Aoi turns out to become their frequent customers. But he had an inkling, the other dropped by often than not to gawk at his friend, Harada, whereas for this particular soul, she was job hunting. The WiFi in Shinsengumi enables students to work on their assignments, at the same time, nibble, on desserts.
"Oh... sorry," Miyuki's dazed voice garners his attention. "I didn't mean to fall asleep."
"Nobody's bothered," Shinpachi responded but winces inwardly by his terse manner. "I meant, you must be busy."
"Yeah," she replied, her almond-shaped eyes studying his feature. He spotted a ghost of a smile toying at the corner of her mouth and looked away. "Um, the place is always busy."
"Yeah," Shinpachi muttered, he realized the two of them were talking to one another for the first time. "Well, how's the job hunt?"
"Pretty bad, I guess."
Out of the blue, his cellphone vibrates and Shinpachi gave a cursory glance to Hajime's message when he grinned. Today, Hajime volunteered to babysit Akane and the little one lazes at the corner overlooking a group of men in training.
On the weekend, another babysitter flung in her towel. The college student has trouble dealing with Akane's random outbursts. He was on the lookout once again. The similar ordeal; the intention draining him out of stamina.
Where can I hunt for a reliable sitter? he mused inwardly. Perhaps, Harada may have an endless number of conquest in his contact information. A little coddling from the man and they'll melt.
He took a hearty bite out of the baked rice and caught Miyuki intently observing him, her cheeks pinkish. Shinpachi broke off the contact a little unease. He has a history with women and the last one succeeded to crush him into pieces. He relished the company of the opposite gender primarily sexual meet ups. Neither parties eager for a relationship, purely carnal.
Munching on his chicken cubes, liking the juicy white meat tickling his tastebuds. He peered over once more, the girl was gazing out of the window lost in her reflections. At first look, she has the "good girl" aura.
On cue, Miyuki's cellphone chimed startling her to pick up, Shinpachi overheard Aoi on the other line. Their conversation became a full-blown argument. Uneasy of the fact that he was listening in but hesitated midmotion when Miyuki sniffled.
Shit, where's Harada? I am bad at dealing with emotional women, Shinpachi's head snapped towards the kitchen entranceway.
"Aoi, I'm leaving for Kyoto this week," she sobbed, resting her head on a palm. "This is not working out for me."
