Alright, Alright, I get it. I was very stupid two years ago. Could you blame me? I had a perfect attendance record, perfect grades, and perfect friends. This was all until Brad. Now I sit at one of those round metal picnic tables outside of the academy with an apple in my hand. I watch Brad walk past. He doesn't even look at me. He looks the same. His jet black hair combed back, black leather jacket, ripped blue jeans, and I bet he rode his bike to class today too. Yes, I had indeed fallen for the bad boy like a total cliché. Only, this bad boy roped me into his irresponsible hunting ways and caused the whole foyer to explode, and got my brother killed. Wringrear Monster Hunting academy never had such an open floor plan. The morning sun beats down on my face and a slight breeze blows through my blond hair. I thought I'd go low profile for my first day back and wear a light brown T-shirt. Nothing too fancy or eye-catching. I stood up from the table and tossed my apple core out in the trashcan right outside of the doors. The light glares off of them forcing me to see my reflection. I have just a light coat of lip-gloss on today, my green eyes look tired, and I probably could have done more to my skin this morning. A curl blows over my shoulder as I pull the door open. It looks nice as I step inside. Right away I get hit with the cool breeze of the school air conditioner. Looking around, I see the school did a good job at rebuilding. If I didn't know any better I would never have known that just two years ago this whole foyer had blown up and even killed a professor. I don't see Brad anywhere, but I do see a woman rushing up to me. I dart my eyes around at the empty foyer. Normally this room has pop-up tables for events and clubs, but nothing seems to be going on today. On the other side of me is a display case on the wall. It's the home of all the awards that competent students achieve. I notice mine from three years ago has been removed. The woman sees me looking at the display case as she rushes up to me. "Mya Jones," She exhales.
"That's my name," I say back. I readjust the bag I have hanging off my shoulder and grip the roll-along in my hand tighter.
"I'm professor Kirland, I'm you're new adviser..." Her voice sounds shaky like she's afraid of me. I watch her hands fidget with the clipboard she holds in front of her. "I trust your year off was better than the one prior?" I look her over before answering. She is wearing mostly grey with a pink tank-top sticking out under her grey sweater. Her salt and pepper hair is in a neat bun and I watch her push a pair of brown framed glasses up the bridge of her nose, showcasing her small grey eyes. A nervous smile crosses her face.
"What happened to my old adviser, Miss Flatswood?" I ask.
"Well see, after the uh, the incident, no one wanted to be your adviser."
"Thanks for your honesty, I guess..." I look away. This is not what I wanted, I don't want everyone to be afraid of me. "I had a bad year but the hijinks should be over now. It took me some time to get that coven off my scent."
I watch her eyes grow in size, "It's probably best if you don't talk about it much," her voice lowers and her breathing intensifies. The idea of the coven scares her.
"You know it was an accident right?" I tell her. I just want someone to listen to my side of the story, just once.
"You should probably get your dorm key, let's get you to your room. I believe you have one to yourself this year," she gestures that I follow her over to admissions. I guess no one wanted to be my roommate either.
"I've been through this before, I know how the process works..." I start to tread my bags forward.
"GOOD!" She sings, "Then you won't need my help." I watch a big smile plaster her face. Clearly, she just wants to be done with me. She thinks the explosion was my fault, I don't blame her.
