It's hard to not become paranoid when you know someone is watching you. How does this person know about what I found in the basement two years ago? I told no one, not even Brad. This is getting scary now. I dig through my dresser looking for the baggiest or plainest clothes to pair together. No make-up today and I will leave my hair down. I quickly send Misty a text about receiving another letter before stopping to catch a glance at myself in the mirror. I had hung it up above my dresser. It looks like I didn't get much sleep, probably because I didn't. I just kept thinking about a stranger coming into my room while I slept. Sleeping is such a vulnerable thing, eyes closed, lying there with just some covers. Most of the time I can't hear much while asleep either. Honestly, anyone could come in. I don't feel safe with these letters coming in.
I meet Misty at our usual spot and she notices my dress right away, "Wow, you look-um... you look different today," She sits down, "n-not bad, just um..."
"If you read the letter I got last night then you'd know why," I say as I hold it out for her to take. I look around to see if anyone is here, watching. I see nothing out of the ordinary. Jonas is sitting at a table not too far from us. I watch him stare at different people before looking at me. It sends a chill down my spine and I shake it off. She takes the letter and opens it, giving it a good read.
"Wow, this is...Gross, frankly. You need to take this letter and the others to the security office and fast. Surely they can help you," She hands the letter back to me and I fold it away.
"Maybe I will tomorrow after practice with Montgomery and you. I have class soon," I tell her, "I don't want to start skipping. The last time I skipped it didn't end well."
"I feel like that might be connected to the explosion so I'm not gonna ask..."
"Smart choice!"
It's Saturday again and I find the baggiest workout clothes I can as I get ready to meet up with Montgomery. I throw my hair up into yet another messy bun and go to meet him. I don't feel like trying to make myself look good when I have some sick creep writing to me on the regular, especially if he is watching me. The less fuel I give this creep the better. Besides, it's just Montgomery and Misty seeing me today, it's not like I have someone to impress.
I find Montgomery on a bench reading, but this time it's not a textbook. "Hey," I say as I approach him. He looks up at me before closing his book and tucking it away fast. I catch a glimpse of the cover and see a shirtless man with long hair plastered across it.
"That's what you want to wear for this?" He asks as he tries to hide the book.
"You know if we got attacked for real by something we wouldn't have the time to change and be in the best outfit for it, right?"
"Exactly, so why do you choose this?" He stands, pulling his bag over his shoulder.
"Probably for the same reason you read Harlequin romances, because I feel like it," I smile. A laugh gets caught in my mouth and I think about letting it out.
"Hey, that was just because I wanted to know what the big deal is," We walk down the hall. "Why do people like them?"
"It's erotica, literally written porn," I laugh.
"I thought it was more of a romance story... I was reading it for the plot," He swallows hard.
"Right.." I roll my eyes as we enter a practice room. No one else is in here with us which is good because that means there is no creep to watch us, "Sure," I say as he sets the bag down.
"Okay, the best way I see to do this is to take turns being on offence and defence," He rubs his hand together before looking at me, "Don't tell anyone what I was reading, okay?"
