Holly left Blaze at the helm and headed back below deck. When she opened the door to the cabin she had slept in she realized that it was no longer empty. There was a girl sitting crossed legged on the worn wood floor of the cabin tinkering with various vials of colorful liquids. Her movements were smooth and perfectly precise, she did not even turn when Holly entered the room. She had sunkissed brown hair and olive, freckled skin. She was wearing a plain tunic and breeches with worn in boots scuffed from use. She also had what looked like a strip of turquoise and gold fabric that had been wrapped diagonally across her head. The girl carefully set down the glasses she was holding and turned to Holly. Holly noticed that the fabric covered one of her eyes, pink and puckered skin peaking out at its edges. She had an interesting face, Holly wouldn't call it beautiful, but it was pleasing to the eye and you found yourself wanting to look again as if you had missed something the last time you had looked at her. She had a dark swirling tattoo that started beneath her shirt and climbed up her neck, the edge of it just touching her chin. Holly thought that the design reminded her a little of Aven's tattoo.
"Can you close the door?" came her no nonsense voice.
Holly quickly shut the door and stepped further into their cabin.
"I'm Holly," Holly said as she stepped further into the room.
"I know," was the only response she received from the girl as she turned back to her now bubbling concoction.
She seemed to appreciate her space so Holly just let her be and hopped up into her hammock. Holly pulled her bone knife from her belt and turned it over in her hands, studying the intricate carvings. As she looked at it she thought that they looked alot like the symbols that had decorated the temple from her dreams. The dagger had definitely shown that it had an inhumanly lethal ability. Holly wondered if it might have actually been made by otherworldly beings. She wished she had access to some books. Liatris' books... Holly stopped the train of thought and instead decided that problem solving was better than self pity right now. Maybe Blaze would have some books, Holly thought.
"What is that knife made of?" asked the girl on the ground.
Holly shifted in her hammock propping herself up on one arm so she could look at the girl who had momentarily turned from the concoctions before her.
"Don't know," Holly said honestly.
The girl's brown eye narrowed, "Can I see it?"
Holly nodded and handed over the dagger. The girl seemed to be genuinely interested and anything that Holly could learn might be helpful. The girl turned the dagger over in her hands seemingly perplexed. After a moment she handed it back to Holly.
And as if deeming Holly sufficiently interesting said, "I'm Iridia."
"Nice to meet you," said Holly reflexively then adding, "and you are a part of the crew..."
