A year After The War, In Ba Sing Se
"Umm."
"Right, sorry I forgot." Katara said awkwardly backing off.
I hated how as soon as Katara turned sixteen she grew even more, and I felt even worse. Katara wasn't necessarily tall, but she was taller than me. I was only fourteen, but it was difficult.
"No it's good, we can do that." I said quickly.
"Aang I'm not going to force you into anything." Katara said with an annoyed sigh.
"No, no I want to." I assured her. Katara pinched her eyebrows and shook her head.
"No you don't Aang, and it's fine, I don't want to make you uncomfortable."
She slouched her back and let out a sarcastic laugh.
"I mean what did I expect, I'm dating a fourteen year old."
Ouch. That stung more than I'd like to admit too.
"What's that got to do with anything?" I snapped.
She seemed taken aback from my irritation.
"Nothing Aang, nothing."
I hated the way she was talking to me, like I was child. Still I tried to calm down, I took deep breaths.
"Katara I think I'm going leave."
"Right."
That was the first of a series of fights we'd have.
I don't know why that memory popped into my head but I guess I'm a little bit smug now. For whatever reason, Katara frequently came to visit me below the ship deck. She usually came at night or during the day, and I guess I didn't mind it.
"What?" She demanded.
I snapped out of my trance.
"What?"
"You were staring at me Aang."
"Oh my bad."
"No it's fine. I mean I don't want you to stare at me, but I'm not mad or anything you can actually stare at me if you want, I wouldn't be upset, not that I want you to stare at me or anything." She said quickly.
I raised a brow. Katara was one the of best public speakers I knew, she was quite known for her "We can do it!" speeches. I'm not sure why she was stuttering or repeating herself, but she seemed to trip herself up a lot lately.
She cleared her throat.
"Aang I've been thinking.."
"Yes." I said maybe a little to quickly. My heart was hammering.
"I think we need to hijack the ship."
"Oh." I don't know why I was defeated. Katara must've seen the look on my face.
"Go on."
" I know we need to see who's behind all this, but we don't need these idiots anymore. I say we take control and get rid of San and Kenji."
My eyes widened.
"You mean like take them out?"
"No we're not gonna kill them Aang, I mean kick them out, lock them up, I don't know, something like that."
"I think they're too dangerous to have tied up, we should leave them somewhere."
"Okay. Tonight we get rid of them. I have a plan."
Katara was never the plan guy, but her idea wasn't half bad, in fact it might just work.
"Okay let's do it."
Katara stook out her hand and it took me a while to realize I was supposed to shake it. I shook it back and felt a little pride at seeing my hand was bigger than hers.
"Ready?"
"Ready."
