"Lorretta, you're mashing the potatoes wrong. Get a hold of yourself!" She exclaims from behind us. Lor sighs as it's the fourth time my mom has said this.

"Mom, there's no other way to mash potatoes. And since when did you learn how to cook, woman," She says jokingly.

Mom whacks the back of her head with a rolled-up newspaper and steps back to look over the kitchen. I'm working on cooking the chicken, and so far my mom hasn't said anything negative about it. So let's hope it stays that way.

It was not an hour later, and we were just waiting for them to arrive. Lo and I are on the couch watching a British TV show, and our mom was up doing something in her office when the doorbell rang.

I glace at Lo, "Well? Go get it,"

She looks at me with a scrunched-up face, "No, you go get it!"

"Lorretta, they're your guests!" I all but shout.

"Girls, go get the door, or so help me I will not be a nice woman tonight!" Mother shouts frustrated at our behavior. Lorretta rushes out how she has to pee before running to the bathroom.

I groan and step towards the door and pulling it open. I smile at who I assume to be Mr. Lee as he was about ring the doorbell again. To his left were a middle-aged woman, a teenage boy, and two young kids at their feet.

They all looked very nice and put together. Mrs. Lee hands me a pie and apologizes for their tardiness. I brush it off and apologize for not coming to the door sooner.

I invite them in just as my mom and Lorretta come down with bright smiles on their faces.

We all greet each other, and I put their coats in the closet as Lorretta and Matthew start talking.

We all take a seat in the living room, and I notice the two kids look bored. The little boy and girl glanced out the windows and occasionally yawned. I remember the box of toys we have in the basement and decide to go down there and get them.

I stand up telling everyone I'll be right back and open the door leading to the staircase into a brightly lit basement. I take a while to find it but I eventually locate the small box and bring it upstairs. I set in down in front of them and smile at their curious faces.

"Here, I thought you guys would like some toys to play with," Their eyes brighten and they reach for the box after thanking me. I take a seat at the chair in front of the TV as everywhere else was taken. Mr. and Mrs. Lee were sitting on the long part of our L-shaped couch, my mom in the corner, and Lo and Matthew on the other end.

"So Whitney I heard you're in college. What do you study?" Mrs. Lee asks, drawing my attention from the TV.

"Oh, I study psychology," I smile with a nod.

"Oh, I studied that as well for a bit! Then I switched to Business. Psych just wasn't my thing. Maybe it'll be for you though," She smiles. Well, that totally didn't make me feel bad. I put on a big smile and continue watching the show.

"Right, well, let's go eat dinner before it gets cold," My mom claps her hands together with a smile before waking to our dining table, asking everyone to follow.

Lo, and I bring out some food while the parents talk and my mom asks Matthew some questions. When we all sit down, everyone engages in conversation with each other, but me. I zone out after a conversation ends with someone and just think.

The only thing on my mind was stupid Baker Boy. Everywhere I go, he's right there with me. I've never seen him before now, so he could've just moved here. The bakery is new after all, and I think he owns it.

He should really learn to be a nicer person. More inviting. Being as closed off as he is wont to get him very far in life. For the short time, I've known him, I feel like there's so much more to him than he lets off. He's so very reserved but there are times when his blue eyes light up ever so slightly and his head tilts in interest. Then out of nowhere, he cuts himself off from everyone and acts like a total dickwad.

Don't even start on Danny. He's the sweetest kid you'll ever meet! He's got the cutest little face and the best manners. He's smart for his age and is just a great ball of sunshine. He can make anyone smile on their worst days. And Will loves him, and can never look at him without some sort of positive reaction.

"Whitney. Whit! Hello? Whitney!" Lo stands above me with an irritated look on her face.

"Sorry, what?" I shake my head and grab the plates Lo was holding out for me.

"Mom wants you to help with the dishes," I grab more dishes that we're on the table.

I smile at Lor before nodding towards the kitchen, signaling I want to talk to her, "You're hitting it off with Matt, he seems very interested," I smirk.

"Of course he is, I mean look at me," She flicks the hair off her shoulder. We laugh and I start rinsing the dishes. "I really hope you're right though Whit. I just don't know if he does,"

"I can ask if you'd like, that was the point of dinner. But if you're not up for it ask him if he wants to hang out sometime. You'll get to know him more and it gives you a chance to ask," She takes the dish, drying it off.

"I'll think about it," The dishes were done so we headed back to the dining room for pie. It was an apple one, which reminded me of Danny, and it was delicious.

Once we all finished I gathered their plates in the kitchen again and sneaked the little kids, Lilly and Nathan, a cookie before finally announcing our goodbyes.

I was brushing my teeth when my phones chimed on the counter.

Baker Boy: Hey darling ;)

Whitney: Would you stop calling me that? And don't you have someone else you can bother?

Baker Boy: Unfortunately for you, you're the only thing I can think of

Whitney: Well I'm busy, Will

Baker boy: Then why are you still texting me

Whitney: Because you'll probably spam me if I don't

Baker Boy: You're right, I would

Whitney: I've gotta go mop my carpet

Baker Boy: You're hilarious

Whitney: Oh no! I lost it, Will!

Baker boy: What'd you lose, darling?

Whitney: The part where I asked!

Baker Boy: You've got an attitude today, who pissed in your cheerios?

Whitney: Gotta go look for the culprit I guess, bye!

Baker Boy: Goodbye, Darling, text ya later xx
